Fuel Your Day in Kaka'ako
In the heart of Honolulu's most vibrant district, Bluetree Cafe has carved out a space that feels like a green sanctuary amidst the urban street art of Kaka'ako. It is the go-to spot for those who prioritize clean eating without sacrificing flavor. The atmosphere is bright and airy, defined by natural wood accents and a steady hum of local creatives tapping away on laptops.
The Bluetree Experience
Stepping inside, the first thing you notice is the crisp, earthy aroma of cold-pressed juices and freshly ground espresso. Unlike traditional coffee shops that rely heavily on sugary syrups, the menu here centers on longevity and wellness. Their signature blue-tinted lattes—a nod to the cafe’s name—are a local favorite, blending vibrant color with a smooth, balanced roast.
The food menu leans heavily into high-quality, plant-forward ingredients. Whether you are grabbing a quick acai bowl before hitting the nearby boutiques or settling in for a nutrient-dense lunch of grilled salmon or garden-fresh salads, the kitchen focuses on consistency. It’s an ideal environment for solo remote workers or small groups looking for a light, refreshing meal.
Local Insights
While the service is typically swift, keep in mind that this corner of the neighborhood can get quite busy during the weekday lunch rush. Parking in the surrounding blocks can be a bit of a challenge, so consider walking if you are exploring the nearby murals. The space is particularly well-suited for early risers who want to beat the heat of the afternoon sun while enjoying a peaceful morning brew.

This is our fourth or fifth time here, and I highly recommend for the coffee options. Service is not “slow,” it’s normal for an actual restaurant that makes coffee and food to order. Awesome vibe, good music, additional seating upstairs and outside seating is great on a nice day (which is most days). Everyone is super nice and friendly! Ok so, the reason I gave one less star for food is because at some point since November they’ve changed their breakfast burrito significantly. First, MUCH smaller. I used to tell everyone about how the burrito here was so big it was a “2-hander” and how much it reminded me of the bfast burritos in San Diego. No more, now it’s tiny, and way overseasoned. Too much black pepper and some other seasonings (can’t quite put my finger on them). Not sure why they changed something that was great but alas. It’s like they went from using a burrito tortilla to a soft taco tortilla (size wise). If they wanted to cut cost they could just make the “side salad” optional. Unfortunate. That said, the croissant sandwich, avocado toast, and açaí bowl are still awesome. Again, highly recommend and will continue to return.

Visiting from California. It's a vibe and good coffee, got the Ube coffee and strawberry coconut smoothie. Love this mushroom toast, sooo good and fresh. Update: came for a second time and got the non caffeinated strawberry coconut refresher for my kiddo and a matcha coconut cold foam for myself 😊

$17 “panini” came out cold and skimpy, made with Walmart quality deli meat. A joke. Coffee tasted watered down too. Both were ridiculously expensive for such low quality.

Went to Bluetree early Sunday morning so parking was plentiful Ordered the breakfast burrito and potato bowl, very delicious. Get the Kulolo crunch latte or purple cloud which is a ube expresso if not regular coffee.

Really surprised by all the negative reviews, but discovered on a deeper read that they were for random mishaps. So glad I stopped in. The mac nut latte was surprisingly tasty, and the price was very reasonable for this type of drink. My new favorite spot for a decaf espresso in the SALT shops area (tried most).

As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Mina, she is very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended me their matcha latte. I was watching her make it and she was actually whisking with a real matcha whisk from Japan! As I took a sip, I tasted the very rich matcha flavor, not one of those sweetened fake matcha! I loved every sip of it. Mina is so sweet and kind, you must go to this cafe just to meet her and have a matcha latte!

Come stop by! I've only gone in the afternoon. I like to ask questions about drinks and their staff is ready to help and do it in such a friendly manner. You can enjoy the 2nd floor or bar floor, tables outside too! I enjoyed my Hot hojicha in a mug, they sweeten it with brown sugar syrup. I enjoyed it :) I will try an espresso drink next time.. and also review their lemonade. Their Affogato specials also caught my eye! 100% appreciate the vibe and the variety here.

This store is similar to the other on Kapiolani Blvd. in its’ signature blue decor with bicycle accessories all around, though there is a second story with a great view out the full length, front facing, glass wall. The espresso is delicious but again not as strong as a proper specialty coffee establishment, but sometimes that okay. Atmosphere is great with plenty of seating, outlets, good music, great service, and very nice interior decorations. My new favorite spot to hangout in Kaka’ako & deserves 4.5/5🤙🏼

The coffee is quite good. I got an Americano, my standard bar for most places, and was favorably impressed with the quality of the beans and how it was made. My friend enjoyed her more fanciful coffee drink, as well as the oatmeal. Which was forgotten for an hour, by both us and the kitchen staff, but then came. Great, casual-chic atmosphere, though the music can get a bit headache-inducing if you stay too long.
