Island Flavors Served Without Pretense
Tucked away from the typical Waikiki tourist traps, Best Home Cook provides an authentic window into what local Honolulu families actually eat for dinner. This isn't a place for white tablecloths or complex deconstructions; it is a straightforward kitchen focused on the hearty, soul-warming staples that define Oahu’s culinary identity.
A Taste of Local Comfort
The menu leans heavily into traditional plate lunch culture. Expect generous portions of mochiko chicken, crisp on the outside and tender within, paired with the mandatory scoop of macaroni salad that hits the perfect balance of creamy and tangy. The aroma of shoyu-marinated proteins hitting a hot grill greets you the moment you walk through the door, mixing with the low hum of local radio playing in the background.
Navigating the Neighborhood Gem
This spot is a favorite for office workers in Honolulu who need a substantial meal that feels homemade rather than processed. The interior is functional and no-frills, designed for efficiency rather than lingering. Be prepared for a minor logistical quirk: the parking situation in this part of town can be competitive during the lunch rush, so timing your visit just before or after the peak hours is a pro move for locals.
Whether you are a resident craving the comfort of a well-prepared beef stew or a visitor looking to step outside the resort bubble for a genuine meal, the kitchen here delivers consistent, salt-of-the-earth food. It is the kind of neighborhood establishment where the focus remains entirely on the plate, ensuring every calorie counts toward a deeply satisfying experience.

This is your one stop review. And when I do reviews, that means the place was bomb. If not, I don’t leave a review. Me and the wifey went on a Friday night for our anniversary. It was a slow night so it wasn’t packed at all, no issues with parking. The staff were so kind and welcoming. They didn’t bring out the typical complimentary bread. It was a peanut sauce with grilled chicken skewer and pita bread. Amazing. We ordered the crab cakes, the seafood tortellini, and fillet mignon, and the oxtail soup. Y’all…they put their foot in that food (that means it was amazing lol). We will definitely be going back. 10/10 🙌🏾🤩

5⭐️ I’ll be back! One of the best meals I’ve had in Hawaii this trip and the service was also top notch. Food: recommend the cod (think buttery and melt in your mouth fish). Shrimp curry was also very solid (wasn’t spicy but more curry flavour). Crispy fried fish was also yummy. Every table gets complimentary chicken skewers with peanut sauce and fluffy warm naan bread. Drinks: old fashion was really good so we had a few of those. Gimlet was very strong if you enjoy some punch. Ambiance: white table cloth but relaxed. They have a piano for special events and have a private dining area for events. Service: from the host to our waiter (Brian) was excellent. Very attentive and went above and beyond even though managing several tables.
