About
A Tradition of Island Comfort
In the heart of Honolulu, BBQ Mixed stands as a cornerstone for those seeking the quintessential plate lunch experience. This is not a place for white tablecloths or reservations; it is a straightforward, no-nonsense kitchen where the scent of charred meat and teriyaki glaze greets you the moment you step off the busy street. The atmosphere is bustling and efficient, catering to locals on their lunch break and visitors who want to eat like they actually live here.
What to Expect on Your Plate
The menu is anchored by the classic mixed plate, a generous portion of protein that typically features a trifecta of teriyaki chicken, barbecue beef, and crispy katsu. Everything is served over a foundation of two scoops of sticky white rice and a scoop of creamy macaroni salad. The teriyaki marinade hits that perfect balance of ginger, shoyu, and sugar, resulting in a caramelized edge on the beef that is hard to replicate at home. Be prepared for the portion sizes—they are substantial enough that most patrons leave with a to-go box for later.
Local Insights
While the food is consistently high-quality, keep in mind that this is a popular spot during the midday rush. Seating is functional and tends to fill up quickly, so if you are planning to dine in, try to time your arrival just before or after the standard lunch hour. The hum of industrial kitchen fans and the quick pace of the staff add to the authentic, high-energy environment of Honolulu’s casual dining scene. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite after a morning in the surf or need a hearty meal to fuel an afternoon of exploring the island, this spot delivers reliable, flavor-packed Hawaiian comfort food every single time.

My husband ordered Garlic French fries 🍟 because I was craving garlic fries. When he came to the car with the fries, it smells garlicky and I couldn't wait but to open the plate ($11 something) to see. It looks ok, lots of garlic but the fries were oily, meaning if you bite a piece of fries oil will spit out on the side of your mouth. Sad to say but I have to use a load of napkins to squeeze oil out of each pieces that I was eating 😢 it seems to me that their fries came straight from the frier into my plate of fries. I didn't want to go back there (to make a big deal about how oily their fries are) because I was already several blocks away and close to my home. I wanted to share this review to give anyone an update about what to expect when you order french fries from BBQ MIX. This restaurant is located in a business Plaza so parking depends on what day you are going there.

I ordered a small pan of half BBQ Chicken/Fried fish and received 2 plate lunch containers instead of a small pan . Not worth the $41.00 of food I got.
