Barnes & Noble Booksellers
About
A Quiet Corner in the Ala Moana Center
Stepping into this expansive bookstore amidst the bustle of Honolulu’s most iconic shopping district offers a distinct shift in pace. While the scent of fresh paper and binding glue greets you near the entrance, it quickly gives way to the roasted aroma of the in-house Starbucks café. The space is massive, spanning multiple levels of shelves that hold everything from regional Hawaiian history titles to the latest global bestsellers.
The Ala Moana Reading Experience
This location serves as a community hub for local readers and students looking for a quiet afternoon. The layout is intentionally sprawling; you can easily lose an hour browsing the well-curated section on Pacific culture or wandering through the extensive magazine racks. It is a prime spot for those who prefer the tactile experience of turning pages over a screen.
A notable quirk of this spot is the internal stairwell traffic, which can feel hectic during peak shopping hours. Despite the nearby crowds of the mall, the deeper aisles remain surprisingly muted, allowing for genuine focus. Whether you are hunting for a rare gift or simply need a temporary refuge from the island humidity, the cool, air-conditioned environment provides a welcome respite. It remains a reliable destination for local bibliophiles needing to refresh their shelves or pick up a gift before heading home.

I’m so grateful to have Barnes and Noble at Ala Moana. So many bookstores have closed so it’s important to me to support this store. They offer a great selection of books and other merchandise and the environment feels cozy. My mom and I love to go to the cafe inside. They offer a great selection of food drinks and cafe merchandise. We always renew our annual Barnes and Noble membership, which gives a discount on purchases including at the cafe. I recently had the most wonderful customer service experience from a manager named Haunani who was so kind, warm, and helpful. My mom and I are looking forward to our next visit and hope to see Haunani.

Book side is great, the merchandise for books and music is amazing, coffee area is full of performative people squeezing out their last bit of battery on a laptop to try and impress someone. Honestly the cafe area is indeed of a renovation. How do you offer free wifi and no electrical outlets. The seat on the exterior pony wall are also close enough for me to rest againt the other person's back.

I stopped by the Barnes & Noble at Ala Moana Center and it remains one of the most comfortable places in the mall if you want to slow down and spend some time browsing books. The store is spacious and well organized, with clearly arranged sections that make it easy to explore different genres. Walking through the aisles feels relaxed, and there is a wide selection of books ranging from best sellers and new releases to classics and specialty topics. One thing that stood out to me is how the store still maintains the traditional bookstore experience even though it is located inside a busy shopping center. The layout encourages browsing, and it is easy to spend a good amount of time looking through titles and discovering books you were not originally planning to buy. Another highlight is the range of non-book items available throughout the store. You will find journals, gifts, educational toys, and other reading-related merchandise, which adds variety to the experience. The atmosphere is calm compared to many other areas of the mall, and the store tends to attract a mix of students, families, and casual readers looking for a quiet place to browse. Overall, Barnes & Noble at Ala Moana Center is a great stop if you enjoy bookstores and want a comfortable place to explore books while spending time at the mall.

Kudos to whomever has trained their staff. Two ladies helped me(one named J*c**e). The cashier was super upbeat and friendly and walked me over to customer service so that J*c**e could assist me. She too was super friendly and upbeat and she showed her colleague, who was eager to be taught, how to fix a technical issue. Love, love, love this store and its vast array of books and comforting atmosphere.

Our favorite bookstore—and the only one of its kind on the island! The staff is fantastic: friendly, helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile. We’re members, so we enjoy our discounts and treats, and we love spending time here with a coffee while doing a quick read. The Starbucks team inside is also super friendly. Only good things to say about this place—thank you, everyone, for making it such a welcoming spot!

This Barnes and Noble location is HUGE! The store also has a cafe and sitting area, as well as a wide selection of books, music, toys, stationary and other things. My only critique is that i did not find the shelves to be well organized. Many books were not in the correct category, and many times shelves were not properly organized by alphabetical order, making it a lot harder to find a particular book of interest. Other than that, it was a pretty great store!

Love stopping by here to shop for a new book and get a little work done. Arrive early because getting a seat can be quite difficult. Luckily there is a Barnes and Noble/Starbucks cafe on site though. Good coffee and yummy quiche. The yearly agendas are so unique, they have the Kate Spade-one of my fave agendas! Usually a quiet place and every bookworm’s dream.

The location is not the easiest to find especially if you are not familiar to the layout of Ala Moana. But once you do, you get to enter this well stocked bookstore which also has a cafe and sells a variety of books and other things such as board games and puzzles, stationery, toys, journals etc. I love that the middle section is curated according to various themes and current issues. In the off chance that you can't find the book you're looking for, you can easily book one online and you'll be able to collect them from the store. The place feels short-staffed which means you might not be able to find staff nearby but everything is still well run and service is fast. I was looking for a particular book (girls who invest) but they werent available in store so I ordered in advance and picked them up from the store. I could spend hours here.
