A Pulse in the Heart of Chinatown

Stepping into Bar 35 feels like discovering the nightlife epicenter of Honolulu’s historic Chinatown. The space sheds the traditional island resort facade in favor of an urban, industrial edge. With its soaring ceilings and a sprawling, backlit bar that commands attention, it serves as an ideal launchpad for a night out or a low-key Tuesday wind-down with friends.

Global Flavors Meet Mixology

The menu here leans heavily into international fusion, a nod to the eclectic spirit of the Downtown district. Their signature pizzas—often cited as the neighborhood's —arrive with perfectly charred crusts that cut through the richness of their robust topping combinations. Complementing the kitchen is a curated list of cocktails featuring fresh, local ingredients, leaning into tropical profiles without the cloying sweetness found in typical tourist traps.

The Sensory Reality

Expect a lively, high-energy soundtrack that leans toward house and electronic, especially on weekends when the room fills with a mix of local professionals and spirited urban explorers. While the acoustics can get a bit punchy during peak hours, the energy is infectious. If you are navigating your way through Honolulu’s nightlife, keep in mind that street parking in this part of town can be a bit of a hunt; utilizing a nearby parking garage is your best bet for a stress-free entry.

Why Choose This Spot?

Bar 35 succeeds because it avoids the pomp and circumstance of Waikiki. It feels authentic, intentional, and consistently social. Whether you are looking to sample a new artisan cocktail or simply want a solid, late-night slice in an environment that buzzes with genuine conversation, this institution remains a cornerstone of the local entertainment scene.

Way more beer selections than you see anywhere else. And quality beer (Duvel, Chimey, Founder's) and all the local beer (maui, kona, lanai, Aloha, waikiki), and organized by all the varieties (lagers, ipa, sours, stouts, anvers...). My new go-to local chinatown/downtown bar. The food is also awesome! Great selection of flatbreads and pupus! The live music is also a huge plus! And they have private rooms for larger parties!

Bar 35 is a great place to go with friends to have drinks on the cheaper side, and to dance. the music selection is nice, and the bartenders are great despite how much people are there getting drinks constantly. The place can get very packed, so if you aren’t fond of such a thing, then I’d recommend going somewhere else, but it’s a great time. I’d also recommend you get an uber to the place, because there’s only paid parking and the lots are quite small. there is meters on the street though if you’re fine parking there.

Dodgy bartenders. Paid for 2 drinks and the bartender wouldn’t give me the eftpos machine back to go through the tip options. Kept it behind the bar and proceeded to serve other people while ignoring me and as a result gave himself a nice 50% tip. Never going back. Tried speaking to the manager who was of no help and some other clown threatened to kick me out if I persisted with the issue.

Music is hit or miss. Dance floor is often happening, sometimes not. No rhyme or reason. Great to have all the scenes in one place: dance floor, outdoor bar, and rooftop lounge. Pretty spot on.

It's been a while since I visited Bar 35. Sat at the bar with friends and had a wonderful time. It has a live entertainer (a singer) tonight and he was awesome! Had the pork belly and Brussels sprouts--both were delish! Will definitely go back more often!

First time here and very surprised how spacious it was, mind you it was around 8pm on a Friday night. They have open layout with bar seating and high tables to hang around, no seats in the front area. Walk to the back to find a private room and tucked all the way in the back is another bar in an outdoor patio setting. Seating was comfy with bamboo trees and the open night sky. BF and I had the nachos and edamame which was more than enough for two. Drinks were awesome, not sure on prices or happy hour but all in all wouldnt mind going there again. Heard the pizzas are good but after the pupus couldnt order anything more. Pictured is the Kalua Nachos

Monday All Day Happy Hour? My roommate and I decided that we weren't going to make it through the day without a drink. The Hanger One Vodka martini was on point! And the okonomiyaki french fries delicious 😋 Staff was friendly & service great. Might be different on a busy night.

When this bar first opened, it must've had the most expansive beer selection in the state. I still think it boasts a pretty large selection of beers to try. What's more, they have a nice selection of pizzas to snack on while imbibing the various bottles of beer available. The location of the bar is convenient for downtown office workers to grab an after work drink. But, it's a great hangout for those coming into Chinatown as well. The area has improved a bit in the last decade due to the recent gentrification that's been taking place.

13 different homemade dipping sauces for your hot seasoned fries...enough said! The Kimchee Mayo frightens me but you cannot go wrong with Fresh Garlic Aioli or Miso Mayo. Live bands play every Thursday and there's an all day/night happy hour on Monday with decent happy hour times for the rest of the week (T-F: 4-9 pm & Sat: 6-10pm). DJs on the weekends. Cool hip vibe inside. I mean, who doesn't luv life-sized hipster cats gracing their walls.
