About
A Rock-and-Roll Kitchen in Waikiki
Backstage Burgers brings a gritty, high-energy edge to the Honolulu dining scene. Tucked away near the bustling tourist corridor, this spot ditches the white tablecloths for a dark, industrial aesthetic inspired by music venues. You will hear classic rock tracks thumping over the sizzle of the flat-top grill, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a private green room than a standard burger joint.
Crafting the Ultimate Smash
The culinary focus here is uncompromising. The kitchen specializes in high-quality, grass-fed beef patties that are smashed to perfection, resulting in those prized crispy, lacy edges that every burger purist hunts for. Their signature 'Backstage Special' features a house-made secret sauce that balances tang and spice, layered under melted aged cheddar and served on a toasted, butter-brushed brioche bun that holds up remarkably well against the juice of the meat.
For those looking for a local twist, they often feature specials utilizing island-grown ingredients, such as locally sourced onions or pineapple-infused glazes that cut through the richness of the beef. The sides are equally bold; the truffle parmesan fries arrive at the table smelling earthy and sharp, often served in portions generous enough to be a meal on their own.
The Experience
This is the go-to destination for locals and travelers who prefer their dinner with a side of edge. The seating is efficient and designed for high-turnover, which means the space can get quite loud during the dinner rush—don't expect an intimate whispered conversation. While parking in this part of Honolulu can be a bit of a scramble, the payoff is a burger that actually lives up to the hype. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before a late-night show or settling in for a satisfying post-beach meal, the kitchen maintains a relentless pace that ensures your food arrives hot, messy, and exactly as ordered.

We came because of the great reviews. Unfortunately, the burgers were dry and the buns over toasted. Fries were the best thing. Onion rings and fish sandwich were bland. The cashier was nice.

Went there with my family after seeing the reviews online and wanted to try it for myself. Honestly, some of the best burgers I've had in years. The fries and onion rings are also really good. The prices are more than fair considering the cost of everything else in Honolulu. Joe was on the grill and makes a mean burger. Excellent service by Kapua and Maddie also. I made sure to ask for their names so I could personally thank them in this review.

Betty’s Burgers – Hawaii Stopped by Betty’s Burgers and it definitely hit the spot. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right, with soft, buttery buns that held everything together perfectly. The cheeseburger was rich and satisfying, and the bacon burger added that extra salty crunch that took it up a notch. The fries were well-seasoned and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and the onion rings were a standout—golden, crunchy, and not greasy at all. Portions were solid and filling, making it great value for the price. The vibe is casual and laid-back, perfect for grabbing a solid burger without anything fancy. Overall, Betty’s Burgers is a great Hawaiian burger spot that delivers classic comfort food done right. Would definitely come back again. 🍔🍟
