Bacchus Bar
About
Waikiki’s Go-To Spot for Casual Spirits
Tucked away just blocks from the sparkling Pacific, Bacchus Bar serves as a reliable anchor for locals and visitors wandering through the heart of Waikiki. This isn't your typical high-gloss resort lounge; it’s a straightforward, unpretentious neighborhood haunt where the music leans toward high-energy pop and the pour is consistently generous. Whether you are shaking off a day of surfing at Kuhio Beach or looking for a low-key start to a Saturday night, the atmosphere remains welcoming and distinctly un-touristy.
Vibes and Signature Sips
Stepping inside, the lighting is dim and the air is kept crisp, offering a necessary retreat from the tropical humidity of Honolulu. The bar is widely recognized for its themed trivia nights and community focus, making it an easy place to strike up a conversation with a stranger. The menu highlights classic cocktails and a curated selection of beers that lean into local favorites. If you find yourself here on a busy weekend evening, be prepared for a lively, wall-to-wall crowd; space can get tight, which only adds to the convivial energy of the room.
A Local Perspective
While the bar is centered firmly in the bustle of the city's most famous district, it maintains an authentic grit often missing from nearby beachside establishments. The bartenders are known for their efficiency and no-nonsense attitude, keeping the drinks flowing even when the bar top is packed. Keep in mind that the parking situation in this part of Waikiki can be a puzzle—it is best to arrive on foot or via rideshare so you can fully enjoy the draft beer selections without worrying about the maze of streets outside. It is the kind of place that feels familiar the moment you walk through the door, serving as a pulse point for the local LGBTQ+ nightlife scene.

This place was badass. I wasn’t going to post but we were looking for a chill uncrowded spot in Waikiki that wasn’t overpriced. The tunes were dope and the drinks were amazing. Overall, 10/10. Thank you

Bacchus has been a staple of the LGBTQIA+ community for many years. It was recently sold and upgraded with better interior and sound. I love that this bar genuinely feels like a community hub for socializing. There’s a lovely balcony outside where you can have talk with your friends and people watch. On weekends there’s a DJ and the place can get crowded (especially on First Saturdays for their underwear night). The crowd is a mix of locals and tourists. Everyone is very friendly and you will definitely have new buddies by the end of the night. Staff is friendly and generous with their pours (they call it a gay pour for a reason!). Selection of alcohol is good but I never order anything too complicated. Highly recommend!

A really wonderful gay bar in the heart of Waikiki. It’s a local haunt, but welcoming to visitors. They have trivia on Wednesdays which is super fun. The prices are affordable, and love the outdoor lanai with seats to watch the sunset, or watch the moon rise.
