About
Island-Style Korean Comfort in Honolulu
Tucked away within the vibrant culinary landscape of Honolulu, Awiwi Korean Grill delivers the kind of no-frills, high-impact BBQ that keeps locals coming back. The air here is heavy with the intoxicating scent of char-grilled marinated meats, hitting the flat-top with a sizzle that drowns out the street noise of the neighborhood.
A Menu Built for Meat Lovers
The star of the show is undoubtedly the kalbi short ribs. These thin-cut, bone-in strips are marinated in a house-made sauce that balances sweet soy with a sharp, garlicky punch. Each plate arrives piled high with a side of kimchi that provides a necessary, spicy crunch to cut through the richness of the beef. If you are indecisive, their mixed plate options ensure you don’t have to choose between the spicy pork and the savory chicken. It is straightforward, honest cooking that prioritizes flavor over complex presentation.
The Local Experience
Expect a casual, utilitarian interior where the focus is entirely on the food. It is the perfect spot for a quick lunch or a takeout run before heading toward the coast. While the dining room might get a bit crowded during the peak lunch rush—and you might find yourself waiting a few extra minutes for a parking stall in this busy stretch of town—the trade-off is well worth it for a generous portion of meat that falls off the bone. Grab a refreshing drink, find a stool, and enjoy a meal that defines the humble, delicious side of Honolulu's food scene.

I ordered take out from this place when I was visiting Honolulu. I got the Kalbi and Pork Belly BBQ with macaroni salad and potato salad. The Korean BBQ is really good and the prices are great. I would visit this place more often if I lived in Honolulu, really good food and even better prices!

Good location, the chicken wings are fried ok but the seasoning is not good, if you are from South Bay, Vons chicken tastes much better IMO.

We had chicken wings & a garlic chicken plate. Both were great! They gave us a lot of food. I could not finish my plate. The price was very affordable for those doing Hawaii on a budget. Nat was our server and she was super amazing. 10 stars for her!!! I will eat here again.

NEW! This place will quickly become The Hot Spot for Ramyeon and ChiMac in Waikiki! The Ramyeon cooking stations are awesome--your ramyeon is piping hot when finished, paired with a great selection of side dishes (banchan). The fried chicken is super crispy and delicious. I had the garlic parmesan wings and they were very generous in size. My Korean wife had the Ramyeon and sides which were outstanding. Nice dining area with inside and outside tables. Great location directly across from HHV! They will be getting their beer serving license on 22 Dec, so get some CHIMAC in Waikiki!!! 맛있는 라면, 반찬, 닭튀김/맥주 (치맥).

This place was recently reopened and consisted of three different Korean themed eateries. I suppose it’s good if you have different members of your party craving for different types of Korean food (and some Hawaiian food, naturally). It has Korean BBQ (fried) chicken, combo plates with Galbi, pork, shrimps, etc, and instant noodles (yes, packaged instant noodles where you can add two toppings and hot water). We had fried chicken (a little thick on the batter and bit on the greasy side, but tasted fine to me, but not the wife), Galbi and garlic shrimp combo (Galbi tasted okay, but was overcooked and the garlic shrimp was not very garlicky), fried mando (acceptable) and potato cone (interesting and tasted okay). The seating area was clean and had AC. Now, the service, perhaps it just reopened and the staff was still being trained, but our first order of fried chicken took more than 30 minutes (those ahead of us also waited a long time). We placed a second order of a combo plate that came much quicker (less than 10 minutes), but missed my mando order (which they brought it out shortly after I asked for it). So it wasn’t too bad on our second order, except when I tried to place the order, no one took my order for more than 5 minutes even though I was the only one in line. The staff was friendly and came around to ask if the guests needed anything, so that part was good. The long wait was annoying especially for a fast food restaurant and that we had an appointment we had to attend to, but I do believe it was because it just reopened and the staff required additional training. We will likely return and give it another try since we live so close to this place.

Easily my favorite restaurant here in Waikiki!! The only thing is I wish I found it sooner not 3 days before we leave the island. The BBQ Plate is MASSIVE!!! The serving is huge and the food is really delicious. To the point that my husband and I went back literally the next day. Their meats are all well seasoned, bulgogi 10/10, pork belly 10/10!! We came back for their wings and we thought "alright, we need to order 20 wings" thinking it will be small-- boy were we wrong. Again, SERVING IS HUGE!!!!! I wish they have this on mainland!!! PLUS THEIR TRUFFLE FRIES IS TO DIE FOR!!!people definitely need to check this spot out!!! Worth it👌🏼👌🏼 Trust us, went back to back days and even went back for the 2nd time one of those days. We had their BBQ Plate, wings, truffle fries, and tornado potato!!! 🤤 Also the service was phenomenal. The people were so nice and friendly. 🤙🏼
