Auntie Pasto's Beretania
About
A Neighborhood Italian Staple on Beretania
Walking into Auntie Pasto's near the heart of Honolulu feels like stepping into a time capsule of local dining. This Beretania Street mainstay has built a legacy on unpretentious, hearty Italian-American plates that cater to local families and office workers looking for a generous lunch. The air is thick with the scent of simmering garlic and robust marinara, a fragrance that has defined this corner of the city for decades.
What to Expect on Your Plate
The menu leans heavily into comfort food classics. You will find that the fettuccine Alfredo and the various eggplant parmigiana variations are the real workhorses here. The kitchen prioritizes portion sizes that leave you reaching for a to-go container, fitting for a casual spot where the focus is firmly on value and familiarity. It is the kind of place where you come for the consistent, reliable flavors of a classic red-sauce joint rather than experimental gastronomy.
The Local Pulse
While the atmosphere is welcoming, be prepared for a lively, sometimes boisterous acoustic environment during the peak lunch rush. The dining room reflects the pragmatic, no-frills spirit of Honolulu dining, with tables packed close enough to hear the clatter of silverware and the hum of neighborhood conversations. Parking can be a bit of a localized puzzle, so give yourself a few extra minutes to navigate the surrounding blocks before settling in for a meal. It remains a fixture for those who appreciate a relaxed meal without the pretense of fine dining, perfect for a mid-week pasta fix or an easy Sunday dinner with friends.

We were the only customers in there for a while, so the front work worker set us next to the large picture window facing Britannia Street, which was very nice. Good food and wine menu, and glad they have Italian beer. Quick service and the food came out relatively quickly, although again we were the only ones there. We had an appetizer of escargot, for our main dish we shared the Cacciucco seafood stew, and because it came with no sides, we ordered a marinara spaghetti off the kids menu. That was very filling for two of us, but then again we’re not very big eaters. This place is always very cozy with great food and a comforting atmosphere

This restaurant has a nice vibe inside. When I visited I was the only customer there so it was quiet and service was super personal. I got Clam Pasta with complimentary bread and a lemonade. The pasta, frankly, didn’t have good flavor at all and I had to force myself to finish it. The lemonade was Country Crock, when advertised as fresh fruit lemonade. Overall, won’t be back

Great fresh paste and fun vibe in this family restaurant. Prices are reasonable. Two of us finished our meals (but ate too much!), two had leftovers. My creamy pesto was excellent, homemade fettuccine noodles and fresh basil, yum! Such nice folks and good service. ❤️

At around dinner time on a Saturday there was only one waiter! Although I expected some super slow service I was pleasantly surprised, of course with minor delays we still got seated at a reasonable time and didn't have to wait half an hour for food after we ordered. The menu has quite a bit of variety and the food itself is really great, although our bread was a little burnt I'm sure it can be excused as the resturant was quite crowded. 9/10 would definitely go again.

Smells amazing when you walk in. Staff is super friendly, diligent and high achieving. Ordered to go and grabbed a glass of wine while i waited. They dont have a bar but was offered a table graciously. Got home unboxed everything and yum!!! Chicken parm. Salad , alfedo, keiki pasta and meatballs. Not sure where the croutons on the salad came from...pre bought, home made whatever...they were tasty. The girl taking to go orders, manning tables and door dash etc was what EVERY employer wishes they had. Having owned multiple restaurants and have worked at 5 star hotels if anyone should know it's me! Cost wise typical of Hawaii or anywherw right now. $90 with tip but worth it ...oh and the meat balls, lot's of pepper and flavour! Mahalo for a great ending to my day

The server was very nice, I ordered Creamy Pesto with angel hair pasta and it was probably the best pesto dish I’ve ever had.

I got takeout and it was some of the worst Italian food I have ever eaten. The alfredo sauce was split. The chicken was flavorless and boiled. The gnocchi was like sad playdough. Avoid the alfredo, fresh pasta, gnocchi, chicken, and sausage at all costs. Unsure how this place has 4 stars.

Best place to have a date. So fancy and delicious. The food was so good and the service was even better. I came here with my wife and she loved it just as much as I did. The garlic bread was delicious, everything we ordered was delicious. And, don’t forget the water, delicious! I would come back to the place just for the garlic bread and water. Additionally, the pasta and pizza we had was hands down better than fast food pizza! Very good pricing as well. Would definitely come here often if we were rich. Lastly, we absolutely loved the service. The guy was very nice and friendly. Highly recommend because of the great service and food!

We found a roach in our pasta and it was a roach nymph. Which means this place is most definitely infested with roaches. The worst part is when we told the staff, they offered to make a new one? Why would I want anything from the kitchen after finding a roach in my food. We again asked for it to be taken off the bill, but nope! Me and my friend literally went out the restaurant to the bank to get cash as they put a 18% charge for apple pay and card. Guess what, when the staff brought out the bill there’s the 18% fee—we were paying with cash? This place is seriously so lame, the staff is not hospitable and they are extremely slow paced too. The prices are also absurd for the portions. I would not recommend this place whatsoever, if you go here—you’re willingly paying to eat bugs and have bad customer service.

My wife and I came here a few weeks ago. I was just craving spaghetti meatballs. And this place ABSOLUTELY nailed it. Portion was large too. My wife got the creamy pesto and she love it. This is my now go to Italian food place. We will be bringing all our friends to dine here from now on. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu.
