Asuka Nabe + Shabu Shabu
About
Simmering Traditions in the Heart of Honolulu
Stepping into Asuka Nabe + Shabu Shabu feels like uncovering a quiet, culinary ritual tucked away in a bustling corner of the city. This isn't your typical quick-bite spot; it is a destination for those who appreciate the slow, methodical art of Japanese hot pot. The air inside is consistently filled with the comforting, clean steam of kombu dashi broth, masking the ambient hum of the surrounding urban landscape.
A Masterclass in Thinly Sliced Quality
The menu centers on precision. Asuka is renowned for its high-quality cuts of beef and pork, shaved to a translucency that allows them to cook in mere seconds once submerged in the bubbling copper pots. Unlike standard shabu-shabu experiences, the focus here remains on the purity of the ingredients—fresh island greens, crisp enoki mushrooms, and tofu that absorbs the savory depth of the simmering base. If you are someone who enjoys the tactile experience of cooking your own meal while carrying on a conversation, this is your place.
What to Expect Before You Sip
There is a specific cadence to dining here. Because each table is equipped with its own burner, the dining room maintains a rhythmic clinking of chopsticks against ceramic bowls. It is worth noting that the seating arrangement is cozy; you will likely become acquainted with the enthusiasm of your neighbor’s boiling pot. The service is attentive but respects the pace of the meal, never rushing the simmer. Whether you are seeking a hearty dinner after a day at the beach or a refined way to kick off a night in Honolulu, the focus on fresh, seasonal components makes it a standout choice for those who value authenticity over flash.

Hands down the best hot pot place that I've tried. Service was also impeccable. Every worker constantly checked on us with ultimate positive vibes. Our waitress was friendly and super helpful. Truly the epitome of good service here! I had the kalbi and ribeye combo with tan tan broth and musubi. Delicious! To be honest, other hot pot places I've tried were all disappointing. If this place didn't work out, I probably would have given up on hot pot lol. Thank you so much Asuka for a wonderful experience!
