Asian Mix
About
Island Comfort Food Done Right
Tucked away near the bustling Kapiolani corridor, Asian Mix serves as a reliable cornerstone for residents seeking unpretentious, high-quality plates. This spot is the antithesis of the high-end tourist traps found closer to the beach; instead, it offers a straightforward menu that prioritizes flavor and consistency over flair.
The Flavors of Home
The kitchen leans heavily into Cantonese-style barbecue and local Hawaii-style comfort dishes. You will often see a line forming for their signature roast duck, which hangs in the window with skin that achieves a glass-like, mahogany crunch. The char siu is equally reputable—tender, slightly sweet, and perfect when served over a mountain of steaming white rice. For those seeking variety, the combo plates provide a generous portion of meat paired with simple, soul-warming sides.
A Practical Dining Experience
The atmosphere is strictly functional. You aren’t here for the decor, which is minimalist and designed for quick turnover. Expect the low hum of takeout orders being called out and the clatter of heavy-duty plates hitting tables. It is a high-traffic environment, and seating can get quite tight during the peak lunch hour, so be prepared to share space with local office workers grabbing their midday fuel. The service is rapid and no-nonsense; order at the counter, find a spot, and focus on the food.
Whether you are a local living in urban Honolulu or a visitor trying to bypass the resort prices, Asian Mix delivers an authentic look at what residents actually eat on a Tuesday afternoon. It’s loud, it’s busy, and it hits the spot every single time.

We ordered roast duck for 2 times recently and when we ordered roast duck the plate came with way less amount than before they used to serve. When we ordered whole duck, there was no thigh meat and less meat then before and there was 3 pieces of legs instead. The whole roast duck was usually big plate but now they are serving less and less meat. We called restaurant then made complaint to owner then owner said he would give us 10% off which is less than $5 . We don’t want that money back but need owner’s explanation with apologies. Finally owner said that he will find out how it happened then give us call back next day, but he didn’t call us back. It’s not right to treat customers with wrong amount of food when they charge us full amount of money. And owner is not responsible for their service. We will not go back to Asian mix again to get wrong service when we pay full amount of money.

It’s just a counter to order. No where to sit. Roast duck is to die for. Juicy, meaty, just the right saltiness, fatty. On a bed of hot rice, cushioned in blanched choisum😋 I couldn’t ask for more.

I like my food like my relationships ― spicy and complicated. Tagged along with Sheryl M. to pick up some noodles for a pot luck we were attending. I'll be honest and say I wasn't sure what to expect frm this little place. They had tables blocking the entrance for you to order and pay but it was effective. It did nothing to hinder the ordering process and soon we were walking away with huge boxes of food that I was questioning would actually be able to carry the heft and weight of the goods ordered. It was good. We got some noodles, some beef dishes, and they were all tasty. I especially liked the pan-fried noodles that was ordered. Now am I going to say that you must stop here if you're on vacation? I can't say that. But will you be content and happy with your food? Yes.
