Update Dec 2025: the soup was still good, but we also tried some of its Filipino dishes, such as its adobo fried rice, which was pretty good. The roasted pork was pretty good as well. Original Review: This old fashion eatery offers a wide variety of local dishes. We, of course, came here for its “famous” ox tail soup. We weren’t disappointed as the ox tail soup was very good. It was served with chopped ginger that made the soup stood out. The Oyako Don was on the sweet side, but pretty good nonetheless. Parking lot was small and hard to get in and out.

OVERPRICED! Even though I thought the oxtail soup was decent, it is way overpriced after tax and tip. Their regular size oxtail soup came out to be $30 after tax/ tip. The meat was very little on tiny tails. As compared to Liliha bakery - their oxtails size is way smaller. The portions are way more generous at Lilha that can justify the cost. However, with how outdated the restaurant looks, their food is not matching the price. Therefore, I don’t think it is a value and I will be back. Sorry.

Popped in for takeout brunch today. On the order: Spaghetti and Adobo Fried Rice. Got home and was instantly irritated, so this review was going in a totally different direction. Instead of my adobo fried rice, I had a regular fried rice. Call and they said they said if I can come back they will replace the wrong one. This is where we get back on rails. The adobo fried rice was ready and the said I could keep the regular fried rice. Haha so went from irritated to happy even if I had to come back. Free food and you have me at hello, haha. The spaghetti is always on point and the adobo fried rice was packed with flavor. And now I have more fried rice for dinner and lunch later. They are our homey go to spot right down the road from our house. They have great food and a good size menu. There is your local plate lunch favorites, burgers, Asian style options, fish, curry, etc etc. We’lll be back for more

This is a great place to eat for any meal but this was my first breakfast here and it was DELICIOUS!! Eggs cooked PERFECTLY and fried rice is waaay better than it looks- it has great flavor!! We both ate every single bite of the large portions we got. Every element had so much flavor, even the pancakes tasted more buttery than others I’ve had. Great price too!!! Plus it smells like a classic diner and it is very quiet and polite atmosphere. Highly recommend for breakfast especially!! Our server was Raymond and he was EXCEPTIONAL!!! Thank you for a wonderful morning pick me up!! :)

Classic local and Japanese influenced diner with ono ramen and curry options. Their burgers are also delicious and taste home made. Service is sweet and friendly.

I was very thirsty later that night. Maybe it was the MSG or just the seasoning, but I really felt it. That said, Asahi Grill was lively with locals, Japanese, and other Asian guests, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Their famous oxtail soup is definitely worth trying – flavorful, rich, and comforting. The portions are huge! I even saw the table next to us packing up leftovers to take home.Affordable prices, tasty food, but be prepared for that extra seasoning!

I visit Oahu at least once a quarter, and every time, I make sure to stop at this spot. It has a relaxed, casual vibe and consistently excellent food. It’s definitely a local favorite. The oxtail soup with rice and ginger is my go-to—pure comfort food that hits the spot every time. While the menu has plenty of other great options, you really can’t go wrong with this classic.

Great hole in the wall! I am giving it 5 stars for its genre. As far as low key catch all cooked Japanese food with breakfast. This place definitely has a cult following to it. Saw a lot of Japanese tourists and locals eating here on a random Sunday lunch. I’d definitely come back. For me this is like a hang over spot where you just need comfort food. They apparently have a good oxtail soup.

We’ve been meaning to come here for years and finally happened to stop for lunch about 11:30 am. It was a sizable dining space and half full when we came in, looked like mostly locals so that was a good sign. Only one server handled the entire dining room competently and we got our meals fairly quickly after ordering. Hubby got the chicken katsu, and was surprised at how large the serving was for a mini. I got the cheeseburger meal, which is served with fries and a soda for $13. Loved the homemade burger party, but the bun was just meh - not toasted long enough to get the bread warm and soft, I ended up taking off the bottom off and eating it with just the top. Kept the lettuce and tomato, ditched the fresh onion. Fries were ok. The prices were very reasonable, we’ll be going back to try the ox tail soup, which everyone seems to be raving about. Parking available on the side, may be right for bigger trucks.

I have passed by this place 1 million times and finally took the opportunity to dine there with my brother and nephew. We came on a Sunday morning around 11am and there was enough parking. However by the time we left the restaurant was full and all tables taken. This is a great local restaurant that caters to local palette. I had the tan tan ramen and it was tasty. My companions also enjoyed their meal thoroughly. As i glanced around, it was evident that the fried rice is a fan favorite as well as the oxtail soup. Service was a little slow but we weren't in a hurry.
