Waikiki’s Last Stand for No-Frills Drinks

Stepping into Arnold's Beach Pub feels like discovering a time capsule tucked away in the heart of the Waikiki tourist district. While the surrounding streets are polished and modern, this open-air watering hole remains stubbornly authentic. The air carries the distinct, salty breeze of the Pacific just blocks away, mixed with the faint, classic scent of cedar and well-worn wood flooring that has seen decades of local history.

What to Expect at This Honolulu Icon

This isn't a place for craft cocktail experiments or white-tablecloth service. You come here for the ice-cold domestic beer and a vibe that shifts from a mellow, breezy afternoon retreat to a rowdy, high-energy hangout once the sun goes down. It’s the kind of spot where the walls are plastered with stickers and memorabilia left by travelers over the years, creating a colorful, cluttered visual history that tells a story of thousands of nights out in Honolulu.

If you're visiting, keep in mind that space is at a premium. The floor plan is compact and can get quite tight as the evening progresses, meaning you'll likely end up bumping elbows with a friendly stranger—which is usually how most conversations at Arnold's begin. The music is generally kept at a volume that encourages shouting over the table, making it perfect for groups looking to let loose without the pretension found elsewhere in town.

The Local Experience

Arnold's is a survivor of the rapid commercialization of the beach area. It is a genuine pub experience in a city dominated by hotel bars. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick drink after a long day of surfing at the nearby breaks or settling in for a late-night session, it captures the raw, unpolished spirit of Hawaii’s nightlife. Just be prepared to navigate the crowded sidewalk entrance; it's a small price to pay for one of the most honest pub atmospheres in the city.

Best kept secret on the island. Love this place. The staff is fantastic and if you like a local vibe you will love Arnolds. They don't have a lot of food but the beef dogs with a variety of toppings is definitely a great value!

Arnold’s was our very first stop after checking into the hotel, and honestly, it set the tone for the entire trip. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the razor-sharp wit of Miss Kim, who welcomed us with, “Where you from? I’m sorry!” — and just like that, we knew we were in the right place. We were in the mood for tiki drinks, so naturally the World Famous Mai Tai was ordered. Miss Kim went straight to work, hand-mixing what can only be described as the best Mai Tai in the whole wide world. These are not your mass-produced, overpriced luau Mai Tais — these are the real deal. Strong, balanced, and dangerously easy to drink. I may or may not have “sucked up” a couple of them… purely for research purposes. My Best Girl was craving a Piña Colada, which initially came from a machine and didn’t quite taste like a Piña Colada. No problem — Kim immediately took care of my girl and the tab like a pro. Naturally, this heroic act led to ordering two more Mai Tais. Problem solved. We loved it so much that we came back the following Friday, did it all over again, and even picked up a couple of t-shirts for good measure. If you appreciate local color, strong drinks that won’t wreck your vacation budget, quick wit, and a laid-back, no-nonsense tiki vibe, do yourself a favor and check out Arnold's Beach Bar. And whatever you do, be sure to ask Kim when the last time she had a Fluffanutta. Trust me.

Great local place to just chill! A must experience while hanging out in Honolulu. Live local music most nights and the cheapest beer I found while on vacation… cheap for Hawaii I should say! lol

What really made this place was Lizzy! The service from her was absolutely amazing! One of the best in the area. She was absolutely great on recommendations and they did not disappoint. We will definitely be going back here! The music is great and atmosphere overall is unbeatable! DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!!

Always a great time at Arnold's! We stopped in to celebrate our graduate with a few drinks. Live music was playing, but the volume was very manageable and easy enough to talk over. Sometimes live music creates an environment where conversation is near impossible. Drinks were good, and atmosphere is always fun. If you're looking for a small dive bar with a local vibe, this is it.

As may have said. It’s a dive bar,,,but a great dive bar! LOL. It’s really more of a low end Tiki bar, but let’s not split hairs! The beer prices are the star, especially at happy hour. The mixed drinks are really not that killer of a deal, but they are fair. I wish I got a hot dog, but we did not. Lizzy, the bartender and one woman show, was awesome. See pic. Nothing but big smiles and cold beer. HooRa! VictorB

Fun small tiki bar. Limited seating and hidden away. Popcorn was great. Drink selection on menu is limited. Some nice local beers.

Love this bar! It's been 20 years since I've been here, and not a lot has changed. No smoking any longer, but the drinks are still strong and the service is still awesome. Lizzy was a blast to get to know. If you're hungry, get the Lizzy Glizzy!
