A Slice of Italy in the Heart of Waikiki

At Appetito Craft Pizza and Wine Bar, the focus is on a stripped-back approach to Italian cuisine. Located right in the vibrant core of Waikiki, this spot bypasses white-tablecloth pretense in favor of a bustling, high-energy environment that mirrors the surrounding urban landscape of Honolulu. You will hear the sharp clatter of ceramic plates and the hum of travelers sharing stories, set against an open kitchen that smells intensely of blistered dough and simmering tomato reduction.

The Art of the Craft

Chef Hiroshi Kawaura helms the kitchen with a philosophy rooted in approachable craftsmanship. The signature pies, fired in a custom oven, feature a crust that balances a delicate crunch with a chewy, fermented center. The menu favors house-made pastas and locally inspired Italian small plates that pair seamlessly with a thoughtfully curated wine list. Whether you are leaning toward the classic Margherita or something more adventurous like the prosciutto-topped varieties, the ingredients are treated with a respect that feels both modern and traditional.

Know Before You Go

The space feels tailored for groups looking to wind down after a day on the beach or locals wanting a mid-week glass of Chianti. Because the dining area is compact and popular with both the hotel crowd and residents, the acoustic levels can spike during peak dinner hours—it is not a place for a whispered secret, but it is perfect for a lively evening. Expect to navigate a bit of tight spacing between tables, which only adds to the convivial, energetic pulse of the room. It is a quintessential stop for anyone looking for a reliable, flavor-forward meal in the Honolulu metro area.

Great portobello fries, quite nice pizza, but an unfortunately disappointing cocktail. The ube sounded so promising and just was too little flavor and too much bad alcohol. But the food was good! The fries were juicy and had a delicious sauce

My family and I are visiting from Las Vegas, and we came across this restaurant while exploring the island. We decided to order from the happy hour menu, and everything exceeded our expectations. The food came out incredibly quickly, and every dish was fresh, hot, and absolutely delicious. Adam took great care of us throughout our dining experience. He was welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home. We also had the pleasure of speaking with the manager, Belinda, who was an absolute delight. Her kindness and genuine hospitality made our visit even more enjoyable. Between the excellent service, delicious food, and warm atmosphere, this restaurant has been one of the highlights of our trip. We would definitely recommend stopping by if you're visiting the area!

We had a great time here during their happy hour! The food options were great and the service was quick. We ended up getting one of their pizza options from the happy hour menu and the Salmon Brushetta from the regular menu which was delicious. Our server Adam was amazing, he was super attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. He had great drink recommendations and was the deciding factor in me getting the Hibiscus lemonade and Ube Martini. Both were great but the Ube Martini was my favorite. Overall me and my husband had a great time and would recommend it to others.

Appetito Craft Pizza & Wine Bar in Waikiki was absolutely phenomenal—everything we had was incredible, and it quickly became one of our top meals on the island. We didn't have a reservation on a Friday night, but the wait was only about 20 minutes—not bad at all for prime time. Started with two Watermelon & Lime Mojito mocktails, and they nailed the balance: refreshing with just the right touch of sweetness. Service was quick and on point from the jump. Kicked off with the Gorgonzola Gnocchi appetizer, and it blew us away—the richness of the sauce was so unexpected and perfectly executed. Rich but not overwhelming. For mains, we shared the Quattro Formaggio pizza, which had an amazing balance of the four cheeses. The crust was light, airy, with that ideal char and crunch—Neapolitan-style done right. Loved that they had table red pepper flakes and fresh parm to customize it. We paired it with the Truffle Alfredo Fettuccine, and honestly, I almost never order pasta (I think I can cook it just as well at home—ha, unlikely) or anything truffle-heavy because places usually overdo it. But wow, the balance here was perfect—subtle, flavorful, and way better than anything I could pull off. Couldn't stop eating it. 10/10 across the board. Service stayed attentive, portions were generous, and the whole experience felt elevated without being stuffy. We'll absolutely go again—might even squeeze in one more visit before we head back to the mainland. If you're in Waikiki craving craft pizza and pasta done exceptionally well, make the stop. Highly recommend reservations for busier nights, though.

Wonderful wood fired pizza. I got the prosciutto with burrata- never say no to that combination. Nice wine selection. They have 6 and 9 oz pours- which I love. The fire roasted shishito peppers were excellent. Casual with an upscale vibe.

Great food and great server! We were on day 3 of our trip and craving something different than hawaiian fare. My only complaint is that I wanted a bigger portion. It was about $25 per pizza but both were excellent. Recommend both the margarita and prosciutto. And absolutely recommend the lasagna, ironically it was the only dish I didn't get a picture of because we dug in too fast, but sooo good. Bring a group so you can try a little of everything!

I’ve been a loyal customer here for years, but the last 72 hours eating here were nothing less than alarming. I was served a raw meatball on TWO separate visits— the first time, I sent it back, chalked it up as a mistake, and happily ate my fully cooked replacement meatball. I came today, two days later and faced the same issue. But after requesting it be cooked more - I was initially told by the chef it WASN’T undercooked. I insisted that it wasn’t cooked to my liking, so I asked for a replacement. They then replaced it with a SECOND raw meatball, and then admitted that there may be a quality control issue. To make matters worse, the tiramisu offered as a reconciliation tasted strongly of blue cheese or mold, which raises serious concerns about the freshness of the marscapone and overall food safety at this establishment. Then for some reason, the manager revealed that a separate customer reportedly had the same issue earlier that day, which certainly points to a larger quality-control problem, not a one-time mistake. I truly hope management addresses this immediately, because no restaurant should be serving food that could put guests at risk for food poisoning.

I happen to stay at the Outrigger Paradise for work. In this case I will be reviewing this restaurant, not so much the hotel. The bar service at Appetito is amazing, the beer is cold, and the food is great!! The Margherita is my favorite, followed by the Boquerones. You must also try the Grilled Shishito Peppers. I highly recommend this place? You’re welcome!!
