Aoki Teppanyaki
About
Dinner and a Show in the Heart of Waikiki
Step off the bustling Honolulu sidewalks and into the rhythmic clatter of spatulas hitting steel at Aoki Teppanyaki. This is not a place for a quiet, whispered conversation; it is a high-energy stage where your meal is prepared with flair right before your eyes. You will hear the sharp sizzle of garlic butter hitting the flat top and the synchronized movements of chefs who treat every onion volcano as a personal challenge.
Savoring the Technique
The menu centers on high-quality proteins—think succulent lobster tails, tender scallops, and ribeye steak finished with a proprietary soy-based glaze. As you watch the flames lick the vent hoods, you will smell the distinct aroma of toasted sesame oil and caramelized vegetables that defines the Teppanyaki experience. It is a fantastic pick for families or groups celebrating birthdays, as the chefs encourage interaction and are known for their playful banter during the service.
Local Observations
Because the space is optimized for the performance, the seating is quite intimate. You will likely find yourself elbow-to-elbow with fellow diners, which only adds to the communal spirit of the room. It is a bustling, kinetic environment that thrives on the noise of clinking silverware and laughter. While parking in the Waikiki area can require a bit of patience, the combination of professional culinary theatrics and fresh, seared seafood makes the trip worth the effort for those looking to turn their dinner into an event.

Food is delicious but if you get seated in one of the side rooms inside of the main room, the service is pretty rough. They definitely cater to the main room and forget about you. Had to ask for refills, salad came after the chef was cooking, and waited forever for bill to come. It’s a shame but reality.

We had pretty good experience here. Great food, we ordered new york steak and seafood combo of 4oz lobster, scallops and prawns. All were tasty and well cooked, specially the medium rare stake. The only issue was with our reservation, I had to find a parking while my partner was not being seated due to their "rule" that a table should be full before making order. And after all parties came - we had only 6 people on the table, not full. My GF was waiting in the lobby for about 15mins. I do think this "rule" must be reviewed.

My first time here It was excellent the food was so good we definitely have to come back , they were very nice and understanding of some food allergies that I have . Parking is not the greatest, you can park at the lagoon and walk but for some people that might be far . You can always park at the Hilton Other then that the food was really good

The good: The chef was an amazing personality, skilled in his art and very personable with adults and kids alike. The food was made to order and cook quite literally, perfectly. The bad: Our table server was very professional and nice, I just wish she were a tad more attentive to things like water refills. The ugly: The price, however this does not impact my review, more of a footnote. Anyone complaining about price should realize you are in a resort ecosystem built solely to keep you in, spending for max profit. We opted for the free and purchased one of the family portraits taken by the in house photographer. The image wasn't the best to be honest, she did nothing to edit it but we bought one photo for $20 to keep the memory. Overall: Go here, enjoy the unique experience and call it a day. Ps: Free ice cream but nothing to call home about. Lol

I visited Aoki Teppanyaki in Waikiki and it turned out to be one of those dining experiences where the cooking performance becomes just as memorable as the food itself. The restaurant specializes in teppanyaki-style dining where the chef prepares the meal directly in front of guests on a large steel grill. Once everyone is seated around the grill, the chef begins cooking and the experience quickly becomes interactive. Watching the chef handle the knives, flip ingredients, and prepare the meal with precision adds an entertaining element that keeps the entire table engaged. The menu focuses on classic teppanyaki combinations such as steak, shrimp, chicken, and fried rice. The ingredients are cooked fresh on the grill, and the seasoning is simple so the natural flavors of the meat and seafood stand out. The fried rice is a highlight and is prepared directly on the grill with eggs, vegetables, and seasoning while the chef performs a few entertaining tricks along the way. The atmosphere is lively and social since most tables seat several guests around the same grill. It creates a fun environment where people interact with both the chef and the rest of the table during the meal. Service during my visit was friendly and organized, and the pacing between courses felt smooth throughout the evening. Overall, Aoki Teppanyaki offers a classic teppanyaki dining experience in Waikiki that combines well-prepared food with an entertaining cooking performance. It is a great place for groups or anyone looking for a fun interactive dinner.

The food was good, especially the grilled king oyster mushroom! The best is to order several things and share them. The atmosphere felt a bit commercial overall, just trying to serve as many customers as possible without any personal touch. For that reason, I would not go back. Also, the prices are very steep, even for Waikīkī standards. Probably because of the name.

I'm not going to pretend like Aoki isn't tourist-y or overpriced. It is, and I imagine there are better hibachi styled restaurants nearby. What I can say however is that from start to finish our large group had maybe one of the best hibachi style meals we've ever experienced. From great service, options variety, drinks, and tasty food - everything delivered. I absolutely would come back and recommend to others looking for this kind of vibe.

Family dinner here was very enjoyable. We arrived early with reservations so no waiting. Reservations had been made earlier that day. Our server was very attentive. She brought out our drinks promptly and made sure we had water throughout the meal. Our chef Chen was very engaging and made the meal so pleasant. We engaged in quite a bit of conversation with him and he seemed to enjoy that. I had a non alcoholic Mango Coloda which was very yummy! Family members enjoyed their alcoholic drinks as well. The salmon I had was superb!!! Very very fresh and cooked just right. I would definitely return to this establishment if ever I make it back to O'ahu!
