A Bold Take on Island Crustaceans
Tucked into the vibrant streets of Honolulu, Angry Shrimp brings a high-energy approach to Hawaii’s seafood scene. This isn't your typical white-tablecloth establishment; it’s a place where the crack of shells and the sizzle of garlic butter define the sonic backdrop. The atmosphere leans into a casual, communal island style, making it a natural fit for groups looking for a messy, hands-on dinner after a long day at the beach.
Spicing Up Waikiki’s Seafood Scene
The culinary philosophy here centers on heat and aromatics. Their signature preparations often involve a heavy-handed use of chili oil and fresh local herbs that cut through the richness of the shellfish. You will smell the kitchen from the sidewalk—a pungent, savory mix of caramelized garlic and fermented chilis that promises a serious kick. The shrimp themselves are consistently snappy and fresh, highlighting the access to high-quality local catch that Honolulu is famous for.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
The space can get quite loud once the dinner rush kicks in, with the sound of clinking cutlery and animated conversation bouncing off the exposed concrete walls. It’s part of the charm, though it’s worth noting that the seating arrangement is relatively compact. If you prefer a quiet, intimate corner, you might find the energy level here a bit overwhelming, but for those who want an authentic, unpretentious, and bold meal in the heart of the city, the trade-off is well worth it.

Great option for garlic shrimp right in the heart of waikiki. A bit more expensive that on the north shore but we found the flavor to be just as goood . We tried their coconut shrimp too and loved them just as much. The portions were big and the gentleman working the food truck was very nice!

Mahalo! Always wary of tourist traps, we were seeking some coconut shrimp. Came upon here and met the nicest guy working, and at the time he said it would be a 25 minute wait for food. We decided to go get drinks and come back before closing (9 pm on a saturday) and then ordered. Coconut shrimp was BOMB and you can order by the piece! We also LOVED the garlic shrimp. I think or affordability, taste, and all around good vibes this is a great place for some shrimp. We also loved the sugar cane tea. Thank you!!!

This adorable food truck has the most wonderful food and the sweetest workers. I got the coconut curry & coconut shrimp, and it may be one of the most incredible things I have ever eaten in my life. It is delightful. The curry is delicious, the coconut shrimp are sweet and breaded and amazing, and the dressing on the fresh lettuce was so tasty. I don't know how to suggest this place more. The ambiance of the little food truck place was so cool. I was told very up front when walking up to the truck that they had just put in their rice and it would be probably thirty minutes until it was finished steaming. I came back maybe ten minutes later after realizing that it was worth waiting the twenty minutes for. The workers were so sweet and thanked me for being willing to wait. And I will be thankful that I did probably forever. It was so delicious. Small warning, I believe I did get the "non spicy" version. And maybe it was just a miscommunication, but I found it a bit spicy for sure. However, I am from Wisconsin, so you know, the spice tolerance isn't very high in general. I began writing this review after about two bites. 1000/10 would recommend.
