A Taste of Wafu-Pasta in the Heart of Waikiki

Tucked away near the bustling center of Honolulu, Angelo Pietro brings a distinct Japanese twist to traditional Italian comfort food. Known as the pioneer of the 'Wafu'—or Japanese-style—pasta movement, the restaurant offers flavors that bridge the gap between Tokyo culinary techniques and Mediterranean staples. You will notice the scent of soy sauce, dashi, and garlic wafting from the kitchen as soon as you step inside, a departure from the typical heavy tomato-based profiles found elsewhere in town.

Signature Flavors and Culinary Craft

The menu is anchored by their famous house-made dressings, which have become a local staple across Oahu. The signature Natto or Tarako (cod roe) pasta dishes are daring choices for those looking to experience authentic Japanese fusion. The pasta is consistently cooked to an al dente finish, served in generous portions that favor high-quality ingredients over over-complicated plating. It is the kind of place where the flavors are bold, punchy, and deeply savory.

The Scene and What to Expect

The interior captures a casual, unpretentious energy that makes it a favorite for local lunch crowds and visitors seeking a quick, reliable bite after a morning on the beach. It is bright and functional, though guests should be prepared for the ambient chatter of a busy dining room, as it can get quite lively during peak dinner hours. While finding convenient parking in this slice of Honolulu can occasionally be a puzzle, the payoff is a meal that feels both international and comfortingly familiar. Whether you are a fan of Japanese-style pasta or just looking for a unique culinary angle in the urban landscape of Hawaii, Angelo Pietro offers a consistent, flavor-forward experience that rewards an open-minded palate.

Amazing food, great service, cute atmosphere. If you didn't know it you'd walk right past the small doorway to the greatest pasta place.

It was a long but nice walk from the beach. Food was really good. Extensive Italian menu with very big portions. Marie was very friendly (server) you can bring your own beer and wine. Would definitely recommend.

The only bright spot was the gentleman who served us. This place had high prices, so you would assume good food, but the food was awful. All the proteins were overcooked and the alfredo was runny. Six of us ate at this restaurant and all the adults did not finish their food, and we got snacks at the grocery store next door. Overall, I do not recommend this restaurant.

We enjoy dining at this local business. The food is consistent and good. The service is good. The only downside is the location, they are located on the second floor of a building with only stairs to access. Definitely

I go to this place a lot. Good size portions. Prices are reasonable and the owner is very friendly. I have never had a dish that I did not like. I've never tried them, but I've heard the cheesecake is very good.

This is an Hawaiian-Italian restaurant, not an authentic Italian eatery. Every dish is a pasta dish here and no pizzas. The ribeye shrimp pasta was pretty good with an A for the ribeye. The salad was decent as well, but the lamb chop pasta was too sweet, but the actual lamb chop in medium was okay. The homemade cheesecake was okay, but nothing special.

Delicious, affordable, simple service. I've been going here for a few years now! Decided to introduce my bf to this place recently:) I get something new every time and I'm never disappointed. Do yourself a favor though, and park a bit far away to avoid the people crowding up parking by Foodland. Definitely not a fancy place by any means, but doesn't matter to me as long as the food is yummy. Portions are fairly big as well.

I thought the Lasagna was a huge portion, when ordering take out a dozen times. Turns out, if you order dine in, it's even bigger. Showed up on table as a 6" tall massive pile of delicious pasta. I struggled to finish even half of this monster lasagna. Adding pics of original dish, halfway thru, and when I officially gave up and took rest home. I would normally say, "no garlic bread included", but there simply is not any room left over for bread with this dish. I watched as a 90lb young college girl ordered this right after me. I could only laugh as it arrived in front of her like a mountain of food. For $14.25, you cannot go wrong. This is a family meal sized plate of food. Good luck eating it all in one sitting!

I was impressed by the size to price ratio. The food was really good, veggies were fresh and flavorful, and the staff is very friendly. Its a small place and you can see the cook area but honestly I like that its small. Less noise and people so To better enjoy the meal. Ive tried a few flavors of cheese cake and its been on point every time !! The calimari is a must as well.
