Amy's Shrimp And Poke Shack
About
Island Flavors Served on a Paper Plate
Tucked away near the bustling heart of Honolulu, Amy's Shrimp and Poke Shack is where you go when you want to bypass the white-tablecloth scene for something truly authentic. This roadside-style spot focuses on the staples that make Hawaiian cuisine famous: garlic-heavy, butter-drenched shrimp and poke so fresh it tastes like it was pulled from the Pacific minutes before it hit your bowl. The scent of sautéed garlic hits you before you even reach the order window, a welcome siren song for anyone wandering the North Shore or catching a break from the city heat.
The Poke Experience
The poke here doesn't hide behind heavy mayo or excessive fillers. Expect generous, ruby-red cubes of ahi tuna tossed with sea salt, limu, and just enough chili pepper to provide a wake-up call to your taste buds. It’s best enjoyed outdoors; the tables are simple, plastic, and occasionally shared with a stray chicken roaming the lot, but that is exactly what makes the experience feel genuine.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
While the shrimp trucks of Oahu get the glory, Amy’s maintains a loyal following by keeping the recipes consistent. The garlic shrimp is served with a heap of sticky white rice that acts as a perfect sponge for the rich, buttery sauce. Keep in mind that seating is limited and the sun can be unforgiving, so grab your tray and find a shaded spot early. If you are looking for an unpretentious meal that captures the essence of Hawaii’s coastal food culture, this shack hits the mark.

Located in a food truck park, so try to grab a seat with an umbrella to stay cool. The shrimp plate was fantastic, but learn from my mistake: it comes with a generous serving of rice. I was expecting a plate of just shrimp, so my friend and I over-ordered by adding a separate ahi tuna poke bowl and salad. We ended up way too stuffed! Great value—just be aware that the plate is a full meal on its own.

Very overrated. This spot is consistently recommended as one of the top spots around Waikiki, my friend and I visited on separate occasions and we are not impressed. For $25 you got only 6 shrimps they look tiny especially if you get it headless. The rest of the plate is just a bit of plain white rice and lettuce drenched in mayo. Oh and two tiny tomatoes. The only saving grace is their house spicy garlic sauce which isn't spicy at all but I would not get it mild. Not good value overall. Very mid. The lady at the counter told me that it'll be ready in 5 minutes so I rushed back after I purchase sugar cane drink from another place, but in reality I waited nearly 20. I understand it is a busy Friday night but at least give me an accurate estimate... There are no vibes or atmosphere to speak of this is literally a corner parking lot with a bunch of food trucks lined up and you have to fight for a seat on a busy night like this. I ended up taking it to go.

The shrimp were perfectly cooked: juicy, tender, and coated in a rich garlic butter sauce that was bold without being overpowering. You can tell they know exactly when to pull shrimp off the heat. The salad was a great surprise: crisp, fresh, and light, which helped balance out the richness from the buttered shrimp really well. Simple, well-executed, and very satisfying. Service: The cashier was super friendly and genuinely happy to help. They took the time to walk me through the menu, answered questions without rushing, and made the ordering experience feel welcoming rather than transactional. You could tell they cared about the food and the guest experience. Ambiance: Cozy and inviting. It's the kind of spot that feels relaxed and authentic, perfect for grabbing something delicious without overthinking it. Great for a laid-back meal after a long day.
