Aloha Beer Downtown
About
A Craft Hub in the Heart of Honolulu
Located right in the industrial-chic pulse of Kakaako, Aloha Beer Downtown serves as a refreshing anchor for those exploring the urban landscape of Honolulu. This isn't your typical tourist-heavy watering hole; it’s where local brewery culture meets a sophisticated, open-air design that catches the evening breeze. You’ll hear the rhythmic clinking of pint glasses and the hum of a crowd that leans toward residents rather than vacationers.
Sip the Island Life
The menu centers on their core range of handcrafted beers, with the Waimanalo Farmhouse Ale standing out as a bright, approachable favorite for those who prefer a crisp finish. If you’re looking for something with a bit more punch, the Hop Lei IPA remains a consistent go-to. The kitchen focuses on elevated pub fare that leans into local flavors, often featuring panko-crusted items or savory sliders that pair perfectly with their seasonal drafts. The sight of the large, gleaming stainless steel fermentation tanks behind the bar serves as a constant reminder that the liquid in your glass didn't travel far to reach you.
Practical Notes for Your Visit
While the atmosphere is breezy and communal, keep in mind that the concrete-heavy architecture can make the space quite loud once the after-work rush hits. It’s an ideal spot for groups who want to spread out across long communal tables. Parking in the immediate vicinity can be a bit of a puzzle, so opting for a ride-share or enjoying a walk through the neighboring mural-heavy streets is a smart move. Whether you are finishing a long day of work or just starting your night in Honolulu, this brewery offers an authentic taste of Hawaii’s modern beer movement without the pretension.

Update: this location is not currently open for business. I have no idea if its closure is temporary or permanent, but it is no longer mentioned on Aloha Beer’s website and their Twitter account was closed. According to Yelp, they are expected to reopen on June 14, 2023. A convenient location at 220 South King Street for a light meal and/or a beer. Last call is at 6:30pm and they close at 7:00pm.

Great lunch choice! BBQ Chicken flatbread and Italian sandwich were both excellent. Nice selection of lunch items and beverages. Service was friendly and quick. Location is inside the Central Pacific Building and shares a bank lobby with Starbucks. Seating inside and out, many professionals, very safe area. This is a great choice for lunch if you're going to Iolani Palace.

This is a small location inside a bank, with a large dining area shared with the Starbucks. I'm sure the menu is limited compared to the other location down the road, but I enjoyed my beer, Italian sandwich and cheese fries. The staff was also very friendly and helpful! Mahalo!
