Allegrini Mozzarella (2250 Kalakaua Ave)
About
Fresh Italian Tradition in the Heart of Waikiki
Stepping into Allegrini Mozzarella on Kalakaua Avenue feels less like a typical Honolulu storefront and more like a quiet Roman outpost. The primary draw here is the craft of fresh cheese-making, brought directly to the islands. You are greeted immediately by the clean, milky scent of buffalo mozzarella being prepared daily, a sharp contrast to the salty tropical breeze just steps outside.
Hand-Stretched Perfection
The menu centers on the art of stretching curds, with the signature burrata and buffalo mozzarella serving as the foundation for their plates. Unlike standard imported varieties, the texture here is impossibly supple—a slight resistance on the tooth followed by a creamy, rich center. It is an ideal spot for a quick lunch or an afternoon pick-me-up if you are exploring the high-end retail corridor of Waikiki. The focus is singular and intentional: simple ingredients executed with technical precision.
The Experience
Expect a minimalist aesthetic that lets the food take center stage. Because the space is compact, it can get lively during the lunch rush, though the rapid turnover ensures you are never waiting long for a seat. It is the kind of place where you come specifically to taste the quality of the dairy, often paired with high-quality olive oil and crusty bread. Be prepared for a bit of a squeeze during peak shopping hours, but the cooling, silky nature of the house-made mozzarella makes the brief wait worth the effort for anyone craving a taste of authentic Italy in the middle of Hawaii.

Wendy from Canada Table of 7(2 children) no reservation we were accommodated right away. Such a breath of fresh air. Authentic Italian cuisine that was absolutely delicious. Just like stepping into Nonna’s kitchen and sitting at her table. The owner knew exactly how to prepare the pizza for our children.Highly recommend . Thank you

Bucatini is my favorite type pasta and Pasquale has it along with many other pasta shapes. A nice wine list too. The shop is charming with interesting foods, wines and merchandise for sale. My next visit will be to try the lasagna. Reasonable prices especially by Waikiki standards. .

my daughter and I stopped in at Allegrini to grab an espresso and were very surprised to see that it is actually an Italian grocery store. Since we had just eaten lunch earlier we decided to split a caprese pesto sandwich and oh boy, it was so good and fresh, one of the best things we've ate in Hawaii (Italian-wise) in quite a while!! It's tucked away in an Asian food court downstairs, but it's well worth the effort to find it!! The service was very friendly and helpful, dining is in the hallway immediately outside the store.

Nice little Italian deli on the lowest level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza. Had a pizza, spaghetti dish and a salad. All nicely prepared, reasonably priced. Counter staff was nice, you get a beeper to notify you when the food's ready. Lots of pastas, sauces and other things Italian in the store. I'd say good place to feed a family, very casual.

Absolutely incredible little Italian spot. One of those places that doesn’t try to be flashy—just nails it where it matters. 🍝🇮🇹 From the moment the food hit the table, it was obvious everything was made with care. Perfectly cooked pasta swimming in rich, comforting sauce, fresh bread with just the right crunch, and sandwiches that somehow feel both rustic and elevated. Even the salads were next-level—fresh, balanced, and clearly not an afterthought. The vibe is cozy and intimate, the kind of place you stumble into once and immediately want to gatekeep (but won’t, because everyone deserves this). Portions are generous without being over the top, and every plate tastes like it came straight out of a tiny kitchen in Italy.

I can’t get enough of this place! I’ve tried most of the dishes and pizzas/sandwiches! Ingredients are always fresh and tasty. Today I ordered the lasagna. BOMB! One of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been all over Italy multiple times. Their Italian bottled soda selection is healthy and they offer a lot of hard to get items imported from Italy.. Stop by if you’re in the area, they will not disappoint!

This place is a hidden gem. There should be a two hour wait to get a pizza here. Everything is authentic Italian ingredients and cooked in a way like only a master chef could. If you’re in Hawaii find this place and order anything off the menu. You can’t miss. Thank you Danny. The pizza and tiramisu were like I was back in Italy I’ve never gotten emotional over food until today. I’ll be back tomorrow to try more items Thank you 🇮🇹 🍕 Julian

Pizza clearly isn't a regular go-to food in Waikiki but if you're in the mood for it Allegrini is your number one stop. Our order was taken and with 15 minutes 2 delicious pizzas arrived. Super thin and crispy bases with delicious toppings. High quality ingredients and the gentlemen behind the counter was helpful and friendly. Eat at Allegrini's asap!

FANTASTIC experience here. Hidden in the Waikiki food hall up on the third floor. Food here was excellent taste and true to Italian flavors- their cheeses are imported and their seasoning isn't overpowering. Pizza was tomato sauce with light cheese and arugula/spinach. I thought it was a refreshing addition to Waikiki's food scene and hope it does well! Service was great too, with the waiter coming by a few times to make sure we had all we needed. Really thoughtful for the “food court” style ambiance.
