A Taste of Old School Honolulu

Tucked away in the Aina Haina Shopping Center, this neighborhood staple captures the essence of classic Cantonese dining in East Honolulu. If you are looking for an unpretentious environment where the focus remains entirely on the wok-fired heat, this is your destination. The air is often heavy with the savory scent of oyster sauce and charred ginger, a nostalgic aroma that signals a kitchen prioritizing tradition over trends.

The Menu Experience

Chef-driven technique shines through in their signature local-style chop suey, which maintains the perfect crunch in the bok choy. Regulars often congregate here for the roast duck and the velvet-textured beef broccoli, plates served with a consistency that has anchored the community for years. The menu leans heavily into the Cantonese comfort foods that defined the local dining scene decades ago, avoiding unnecessary fusion distractions.

Local Observations

The interior echoes with the steady clatter of ceramic plates and the hum of loyal patrons catching up on island news. Be prepared for a bit of a scramble during peak lunch hours when the parking lot fills with residents picking up takeout orders for family gatherings. While the dining room isn't flashy, the fast, efficient service makes it ideal for anyone craving a hearty meal after a day at the nearby beaches. It is a no-frills, high-flavor spot that remains a vital part of the culinary fabric for those cruising along Kalanianaʻole Highway.

Went there for take out and ordered roast duck and I waited half hour with hardly anyone there. Walked around shopping center and still not ready then they charged me around 18.00 and when I got home and opened the bag it was a very small over cooked leg of duck in there, that's it. When I went back to tell them they wouldn't have any of it. Yelling in Chinese. Golden duck or duk hee choo suey is way better.

The food wasn’t good. They gave me the incorrect order and told me i should just try it anyway. They also gave my order to the wrong table. Even though I was extremely annoyed I was simply willing to pay and leave, until the owner ran outside after me to demand that I tip, which I refused. She said “next time eat your food outside”. It felt extremely prejudice and aggressive. I usually tip but in no way is it expected with bad service and bad food quality. Very entitled, and unprofessional owner. Do not eat here, the food didn’t even come out hot.

4/4 Come back again to celebrate Child Holiday. My kids love the orange chicken and soup dumpling. I loved their fried oyster and pork chop. The Food here is most delicious with genuine taste. It is highly recommended to try for some Chinese dishes this place has the best flavors and freshest farm to table food hard to beat! There is enough parking in that shopping mall.

I would give this place 0 stars if I could… sadly the lady tried to steal money from me by charging us an 18% tip without my consent, and gave us a separate receipt to leave tip again? She did all of this BEFORE we were served a cup of water or our food? She was very rude when we asked for a refund. If you’d not believe us, please see the pictures of our receipt. Be careful when going here, and check your receipts!

Come back again for to Celebrate New Year. This is one of the restaurant you can find during holiday. I never see this place closed. The food and service experience are the best. Will come back in Chinese new year for Jai and Gao.

Pick up take out before I go to Light House. Cost might be a little high but a 1 dish is good for almost 2 people. Lady who serve us is nice. Food is tasty and will try the roast meat if I go to Koko Head trail next time.

Stopped by after came back from Hanauma Bay. Order Crispy Gau Gee Mein, Mongolian beef, Sweet and sour pork, Kau Yuk and honey walnut shrimp. All food are cooked till you order. It is one of the best place in East Honolulu. I will come back for other food.

My friends live nearby and always talk about how good this Chinese restaurant is. I tried to dine in today and understand why. The service with aloha, ono foods and cleaning are the reasons. Order a fish choi sum chow fun, served with individual soy mustard, napkins and utensils. The food is so good so I ask my family what they want for tonight. Ordered roast duck cake noodle, sweet sour cabbages with beef and mapo tofu on rice. I highly recommend this restaurant and it will be my new location for Chinese food.

Good food at a reasonable price. Ordered a family dinner for 6 with chow fun and fried rice and the portion sizes were more than enough. Their hot tea is good as well. I refill a few pot.

If you're in the area for Chinese food, this place is spot on. The only recommendation I have is getting ala cart vs the combo plates if portion size is priority. Kung pao and ginger chicken as well as their roast duck were my faves so far.
