Pupukea Grill
About
Fresh Pacific Flavors in the Heart of Haleiwa
For those cruising through the North Shore, Pupukea Grill serves as a quintessential pit stop for island-style comfort food. This isn't your typical sit-down establishment; it is a laid-back food truck operation that captures the unhurried spirit of Haleiwa. You will find the menu heavy on local staples, specifically their signature poke bowls and grilled fish plates that highlight the catch of the day.
A Local North Shore Essential
When you pull up, expect the scent of searing garlic and ginger wafting through the salt air. The atmosphere is defined by open-air seating and the constant hum of surfers and travelers refueling before or after hitting the Pipeline or Sunset Beach. It is the perfect spot for those who prioritize food quality over white-tablecloth pretense.
The Culinary Highlight
The Spicy Ahi Poke bowl is widely considered the standout item, featuring generous cubes of fresh, high-quality tuna tossed in a sauce that hits just the right balance of heat and creaminess. The garlic shrimp is another heavy hitter, served with scoops of sticky white rice and mac salad—a true Hawaiian plate lunch experience. Note that since this is a popular roadside spot, the gravel parking area can get a bit cramped during the midday rush, so arrive early if you want to snag a picnic bench.
Why It Fits the Haleiwa Vibe
If you are craving an authentic, no-frills meal that feels like a true local secret, this is the destination. There is no pretension here, just high-quality ingredients prepped with a focus on flavor and portion size. It captures the raw, energetic lifestyle of Oahu's North Shore perfectly, making it a must-visit for anyone looking to eat like a local between surf sessions.

Stopped here to try the famous Pupukea Grill that i heard of with my family. Very delicious and a large portion. Went and ate next to the beach and loved it. Plenty of shaded seating and you get to see all the signatures from famous surfers who have visited

Absolutley wonderful experience. Food was a 10/10. Fresh and flavorful. We had heard about Pupukea Grill through a well known surfer, and we just had to try it on our Oahu trip! My favourite meal on my trip by far.

Visited on 1/11/26. This was, without a doubt, the best food truck experience of our Hawaii trip. If not for the atmosphere, it would receive 5 stars. The quality far exceeded our expectations. It was so good that we immediately went back for a second helping, knowing we wouldn't likely pass by again. We ordered the special Spicy Shoya Poke with Ahi and another fish (I believe it was Marlin), along with another spicy tuna bowl from the standard menu, maybe the Quinoa. Both fantastic!! This spot is an absolute must-visit. The quality was several times better than what we found at the food truck area across from Sharks Cove beach, and frankly, one of the better casual meals we had in Hawaii.

My husband and I were really happy we got a chance to check out Pupukea Grill. We first tried to go on Tuesday, but the food truck wasn’t there and they weren’t open. I tried calling, but no answer. Luckily, we were nearby and found another good local spot, but we had our mind set on this place. We were leaving on Thursday, so I called ahead to make sure they were open before heading back. Good thing—they were open, and we were able to try some amazing food. It wasn’t too busy, but they were already sold out of a few things by noon. We ordered the BBQ chicken quesadillas and a Brazilian lemonade. While waiting for our food, we sat in the covered seating area. It rained off and on, but it eventually stopped, and we stayed dry. Our food took about 15 minutes to be ready, and when it came out, it was super fresh and hot. We enjoyed every bite. It came with black beans and rice, and the Brazilian lemonade was light and super refreshing. Everything was delicious. We would definitely come back again! If you’re around, you should check them out.

Authentic surf atmosphere. Blue food track, photos and pictures about high star surfers on the walls. Super organic, healthy and delicious food on street stile portion. I love local bowl, sashimi bowl, delicious smoothies and acacia cup. Wonderful food stop before take a surf and snorkeling. 100% recommend. Don't forget about tips 😉

Better come hungry. This is the stand alone blue food truck across from Sharks Cove. The bowl with purple sweet potato, kalua pork, over rice with ahi poke and small pieces cooked salmon was sooooo good. Sounds weird, but truly wonderful. Also loved the wrap with pesto chicken and loads of fresh veg (wrap itself is more like a yummy pita-style served like a taco.) lots of healthy options. Returned for this incredible açaí bowl after a sun-filled day at Waimea. Yum!

One of the several food trucks/shacks across from Pupukea Beach. Our food was very good at a reasonable price. The surf n turf (beef and shrimps) was pretty good, though the beef strips could’ve been a bit more tender. The roasters that roams around could get a bit aggressive. Sitting outside in the shade to enjoy some local dishes was more than enjoyable.
