A Taste of Baja on the North Shore

When you pull off the main strip in Haleiwa, the scent of searing lime-marinated fish and charred corn tortillas signals you have arrived. North Shore Tacos brings the rugged, salt-of-the-earth flavors of Baja California directly to the surf-centric community of Oahu’s northern coastline. It is a place built for boardshorts and sandy feet, where the casual open-air setup prioritizes quick, high-quality fuel over white-tablecloth pretense.

Signature Flavors of the Coast

The menu leans heavily into the local catch, with fish tacos serving as the undisputed centerpiece. The mahi-mahi is consistently flaky and grilled to perfection, topped with crisp cabbage and their signature white sauce that balances heat and creaminess. If you are looking for something with a bit more intensity, the carnitas plate offers slow-cooked, succulent pork that pairs perfectly with their house-made salsas. Everything is assembled to order, ensuring that crunch of fresh onion and cilantro hits exactly when it should.

The Local Pulse

The atmosphere is pure North Shore—unfussy, loud with the sound of local banter, and constantly busy with surfers coming off the waves. Expect a bit of a challenge finding parking during the peak weekend swell, and do not be surprised if the line stretches out to the curb at lunch. The decor is minimal, relying on the vibrant energy of the neighborhood to provide the color. It is an ideal spot for those who value authentic, straightforward street food without the fluff of a tourist trap. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before heading up to the Banzai Pipeline or simply winding down after exploring the Haleiwa historic district, this is where the locals go to eat well.

Visited 1/10/26. The "Best Fish Tacos" fell short of the name. Given the strong local food truck trend, you can find much better options elsewhere. Had the Two Surfin' Tacos. Location is convenient when quality is not a priority.

We stopped on a whim and ordered the chicken burritos. The portions were generous and the food delicious. The outside seating was comfortable with palm umbrellas and a view of the ocean. We arrived just in time for the last bit of the sunset.

Hands down, the BEST fish tacos I have ever had!! The fish is grilled and the sauce has an amazing flavor, so much so that I poured the extra sauce over my rice!

Right across from Shark’s Cove and we tried its beef tacos that were “meh”, not too good but not too terrible. The prices, however, are much higher than eateries in Honolulu that serve much better dishes.

Great service very fast very affordable. Definitely will return again on my next visit to Hawaii. Fish tacos were phenomenal. The service was great because they explained some of the items on the menu. If you're not accustomed to Hawaii food and culture, it is always a little intimidating when in a new place. They were wonderful and they accepted cash or credit card. Definitely recommend if you're in the area

Great atmosphere. Fish taco just didn’t taste that great. The fish tasted more like chicken and unfortunately, the chips were at bit to hard to chew. But salsa tasted great.

The serving sizes honestly are better than what I expected from reviews, definitely fed us for lunch and were tasty. Had shrimp and beef and both were flavorful, the pico was good. A bit of a wait but due to the business of the area. The area has lots of outdoor seating, cute food trucks and several small local shops. Lots of chickens hanging around.

I hate to say this, but these tacos were not very good at all. I'm sad to report this because the customer service was excellent, and I even received a sample of fresh pineapple juice. However, the prices were quite high at $8.00 per taco, and they honestly didn't have much to offer in terms of toppings, flavor and taste. I apologize for the negative review; I'm just being honest. If you're looking for amazing tacos, I recommend checking out Da Seafood Cartel or Surf N Turf Tacos—those are my favorites.

Everything was good except the actual Tacos. These are not the best tacos I've had and ended up on the list for probably close to the worst. The fish isn't fried or beer batter Wich is usually how I have had fish tacos before. The fish tastes like it's boiled and tossed in some sauce that tastes gross. The salsa is weak sauce and the toppings are same. I took 1 bite and couldn't finish it immediately felt grossed out by the flavor. Also ordered a shrimp taco and that one was OK. $8 for each taco that will disappoint you. The truck should not advertise best fish tacos. Our mistake stopping here.

The location was amazing, with a sunny ocean view. However the portions were definitely deceiving. What looked like a decent size on the picture and a fair amount for the cost. Was not the same as when we actually got it in person. It did taste good at the end of the day and the sauce was amazing.
