Kono's Northshore - Haleiwa
About
A Slow-Roasted Legend in Haleiwa
When you are cruising through the North Shore, the scent of hickory-smoked meat pulling apart at Kono's is hard to miss. This spot has built its reputation on a 12-hour slow-roasting process that turns locally sourced pork into something legendary. It is the kind of place where the walls are covered in colorful surf culture memorabilia, and the atmosphere feels like a casual pit stop for hungry surfers coming off the waves at Waimea Bay or Pipeline.
What to Order
You cannot talk about Kono's without mentioning the Kalua pork. It is the star of the menu, featured heavily in their famous breakfast bombers—massive flour tortillas stuffed with eggs, cheese, potatoes, and that signature tender pork. For lunch, the pulled pork sliders and hearty plates offer a heavy dose of island comfort food. If you find yourself in Haleiwa town looking for a quick, filling meal, their milkshakes are the perfect pairing for the salty, savory intensity of the meat.
The North Shore Experience
Expect a laid-back, utilitarian setup. You order at the counter, grab your cup, and wait for your number to be called while music filters through the open-air dining area. It’s not a place for white-tablecloth service; it’s a place for sandy feet, board shorts, and post-surf hunger. One thing to keep in mind: parking in the heart of Haleiwa can get tricky during the peak tourist season, so be prepared to walk a block or two. It is a minor hurdle for a sandwich that has been perfected over years of local tradition, providing an authentic taste of Hawaii that favors substance over polish.

It's the only place we could find quickly that served any type of American breakfast. Biscuits and gravy, bacon and eggs. The breakfast was ok the breakfast burrito I was told was really good. Indoor seating and outdoor seating, we chose outdoor seating because the music inside was just blasting.

The food came quickly and cooked well. The menu is somewhat small for lunch, but delicious. Helpful, friendly atmosphere and staff. Good music pretty scenery with just a short walk to downtown shops and boutiques.

Ooh that Limeade! Sour sweet. I was surprised to see biscuits and Gravy on the menu so I decided to try ordering it. Delicious choice it proved to be! Would definitely go again. They had a lot of photos of people who got tattoos of their logo, proving its a local favorite. I didn't know they also have restaurant ls on the mainland.

A relaxed and inviting spot in the heart of Haleiwa Village with great breakfast and lunch options. The peaceful location and casual vibe make it a nice place to start your day or grab a midday meal. I especially enjoyed their bagel sandwiches—the Spout and Tube were flavorful and satisfying. The outdoor seating and local energy add to the experience, and it fits perfectly into a morning stroll around the village or as a stop while exploring the North Shore. A solid choice for straightforward, tasty comfort food with an easygoing island feel.

Everyone hyped up Kono's so much and it was just as good as they said. The food is killer, and the atmosphere alone is worth coming for. The employees were very nice and got our food out in a timely manner. The chickens were also lovely breakfast guests to have around 😂😂
