Khan Kham Thai
About
A Slice of Thailand on the North Shore
When you pull off Kamehameha Highway and find yourself in the rustic, surf-centric streets of Haleiwa, Khan Kham Thai offers a sharp pivot from the typical fish taco stands. This local gem brings the heat of Bangkok to the North Shore, serving up generous portions of green curry and pad thai that satisfy the post-surf hunger. The interior is unpretentious and stripped back, keeping the focus entirely on the fragrant steam rising from traditional ceramic plates.
Spices That Cut Through the Ocean Air
The kitchen is known for its ability to balance the quintessential Thai quartet: spicy, sour, sweet, and salty. You will catch the sharp scent of kaffir lime leaves and fresh chilies the moment you walk through the door. While the menu leans on classics, the Tom Yum soup is a standout, served with a depth of flavor that manages to hit every palate. Expect a casual, no-frills setting where the sound of bustling kitchen pans often competes with the tropical breeze.
Local Tips for Your Visit
Because this spot is a favorite for locals grabbing a quick, flavorful lunch, seating can feel intimate during peak hours. Parking in this part of town requires a bit of patience, especially on weekends when the surf reports draw crowds to the Haleiwa coastline. It is best for those who prioritize authentic, bold seasonings over white-tablecloth service. Whether you are coming off the waves at Waimea or just driving up from Oahu, this is the place to settle in for a meal that feels like a home-cooked secret shared among neighbors.

The pad Thai and beef larb were delicious! This is a great place for late-night grindz on North Shore, a rarity on that side of the island. They have an extensive menu and will definitely have something you like. Mahalo!

WOW. The spicy garlic shrimp is BY FAR the best shrimp on the island. This Thai version is absolutely delicious. Perfectly tender cooked large prawns. Sour/spicey sauce with a refreshing shredded cabbage side.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely delicious! This Thai food truck in North Shore is a hidden gem. They offer a great variety of options at reasonable prices, and everything is fresh and flavorful. The crispy pork belly is hands down the best!! perfectly crispy and so tasty!. If you’re looking for a great combo, I highly recommend the Crying Tiger with shrimp. it’s the perfect way to try both. The papaya salad (Lao style) is also a must-try, packed with authentic flavors and just the right amount of spice. Plus, the service is fast and friendly. Highly recommended!
