About
A North Shore Essential: Jenny's Shrimp Lunch Wagon
When you pull off the Kamehameha Highway and spot the bright sign in the heart of Haleiwa, the scent of sizzling garlic butter hitting a hot flat-top grill hits you before you even step out of your car. Jenny’s Shrimp Lunch Wagon isn't about white tablecloths or air conditioning; it is about the quintessential Oahu roadside experience where the asphalt radiates heat and the ocean breeze carries the salt of the Pacific.
Why the North Shore Stops Here
This is where local surfers and hungry travelers collide. The menu is laser-focused, dominated by their legendary garlic shrimp plates. You’ll find the crustaceans served shell-on, swimming in a robust, pungent garlic sauce that demands a generous stack of napkins. The rice soaks up the excess butter, acting as the perfect vehicle for the dish’s primary flavor profile: bold, aggressive, and unapologetically savory.
What to Expect
Operating out of a humble trailer, the setup is strictly no-frills. You grab your styrofoam container and find a spot at one of the picnic tables. It’s loud, it’s informal, and occasionally you’ll have to contend with a stray rooster wandering through the parking lot looking for a scrap of cabbage. It’s part of the charm. If you are coming during the mid-day rush, be prepared for a bit of a wait—the limited grill space means every order is fired to precision, ensuring that iconic snap in the shrimp meat. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s arguably the most authentic way to fuel up before heading toward Waimea Bay or sunset watching at the nearby beaches.

Certainly much more decent wait if compared to the long-standing popular neighbor #IYKYK. My pick went to Jenny’s as people said it’s as tasty and even better if you preferred less greasy version and a hint of spicy kick. The dining space was super simple, long benches right next to the food truck but that kind of simplicity was what telling you that the foods were good as people solely came for them! Indeed super fresh chunky shrimps with flavorful garlic sauce.

Incomparable! I used to just hear stories from friends and relatives about this place and they tried to remake them. I’ve had butter garlic from other places in Oahu but Jenny’s shrimp takes the crown. I was glad my husband took me for a drive and let me try— definitely absolutely worth it!

We drove to Haleiwa from Waikiki and had this spot bookmarked for our lunch. Parking situation is very tight - every business around is very strict on customer parking. We were lucky enough to find one spot on a Monday afternoon. We got the garlic butter plated and spicy garlic plate. They have covered seating right by the truck which is helpful. Now I have eaten garlic prawns a lot before - but this one topped all of them by miles. The prawns were unbelievably fresh and the garlic butter seasoning was phenomenal. The side garlic rice and lettuce salad were tasty as well. The spicy garlic plate was so correctly spiced that I kept on stealing bites from my wife’s plate. Both of us didn’t look up and talked at all while we ate. It was a lovely meal and honestly made a core food memory here. If you’re in Haleiwa, you must not miss this place.
