Haleiwa Seafood & Grill
About
Catch of the Day on the North Shore
When you find yourself cruising through the heart of Haleiwa, this spot serves as a casual anchor for those craving a true taste of the island. It is the kind of place where the salt air seems to follow you inside, and the menu reflects the bounty of the Pacific. You aren't coming here for white tablecloths; you are coming for the freshness of locally sourced ahi and mahi-mahi served just steps away from the legendary surf breaks that put this part of Oahu on the map.
The Flavor Profile
The kitchen leans into simplicity. Think flame-grilled fillets seasoned with local herbs, served alongside heaping portions of island-style rice and crisp, fresh greens. The aroma of char-grilled fish hits you before you even reach the counter, a distinct smoky scent that marks the transition from beach time to dinner time. Whether you choose the blackened seasoning or a light lemon-garlic glaze, the focus remains entirely on the texture of the fish.
A Local North Shore Rhythm
The atmosphere is laid-back and unpretentious, capturing that signature North Shore energy. It is ideal for surfers refueling after a long session or families looking for a low-key meal after a day of exploring the nearby galleries and boutiques. Be prepared for the space to get buzzing during the dinner rush—it is a popular haunt that fills up quickly. While parking in town can occasionally feel like a competitive sport, the effort is well rewarded once you have a plate of fresh, island-caught seafood in front of you. If you appreciate a meal that feels honest, direct, and firmly rooted in the Hawaiian coastal lifestyle, this is your primary stop.

Fantastic food and ambiance. The waitress was skilled, friendly, and gracefully poised on a busy night. The Red Thai fish was filling and exploding with flavors. The New York steak was savory and the mash potatoes were creamy to perfection. The cream cheese chocolate cake is a hard pass for the next visit. It was dense and to dry and the overall composition just didn't do it for us. Maybe chocolate lava might help that dish out?

Beautiful, scenic restaurant and definitely worth visiting for the setting alone. The wait for a table was long, but the bar area made it enjoyable enough while waiting. The pork belly, garlic bread and espresso martinis were all excellent, and overall the food quality was very good. The main issue was with the steak service. We ordered the prime rib medium-rare and it came out much closer to blue-rare. That in itself wasn’t the end of the world, but we then specifically asked for the leftovers to be boxed up and they were thrown out instead. What made it more frustrating was the response afterwards. The waitress suggested there had been some kind of communication issue, but the exchange had actually been very straightforward — we were asked if we wanted it boxed, we said yes, and got a “sure, no problem” type response. So it felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a mistake that wasn’t handled particularly well. Overall, still a place worth visiting for the atmosphere and food, but the service left a sour note, especially given the prices and tip expectation.

This is a casual restaurant that was very loud on the weeknight we visited in March. It was so loud that it was kind of hard to hear ourselves talk. We ordered from the small plate menu. The brussel sprouts and mushrooms were excellent. The poke was perfectly acceptable but not outstanding. The "coconut shrimp" was disappointing... It was actually just fried shrimp with some coconut shavings on top of it. Our mixed drinks were good. Dessert was good but not amazing. We did not have a bad experience, but for the price and the noise level, I wouldn't go back.
