Cosmic Kitchen
About
A North Shore Fueling Station
Steps from the surf breaks of Haleiwa, Cosmic Kitchen acts as a quiet, nourishing anchor for locals and road-trippers alike. The space trades the polished glitz of resort dining for a laid-back, open-air aesthetic where the scent of fresh cilantro and slow-cooked legumes greets you at the door. It is the kind of place where you leave your sandals by the entrance and grab a seat to watch the rhythm of the North Shore pass by.
Whole Foods with a Local Soul
This kitchen excels at turning simple, seasonal ingredients into hearty bowls and wraps that feel like a reset button for your body. The menu leans heavily into vegetarian-friendly options, with their famous lentil soup often cited as a standout for those looking to warm up after a chilly morning session in the ocean. The kitchen doesn't rely on heavy creams or butter, choosing instead to lean on vibrant salsas, house-made dressings, and perfectly seasoned grains.
The Haleiwa Rhythm
Expect a bit of a wait during the peak lunch hour—the kitchen runs on "island time," meaning everything is prepared with care rather than breakneck speed. While the dining area is compact and can get lively with the chatter of hungry surfers, the trade winds blowing through the windows keep the atmosphere light and airy. It is arguably the best spot in town for a balanced meal that won't leave you feeling sluggish for an afternoon in the sun. Keep in mind that seating is limited, so many regulars prefer to grab their orders to go and find a nearby patch of grass to enjoy the view of the Pacific.

It's surprisingly difficult to find good vegan food in O'ahu outside of Honolulu. But this is a great literal hole-in-the-wall joint for all you hungry vegans after a day on the beach, catching waves or shopping around town. I got the vegan kalua bowl with jackfruit made as a half salad and half rice bowl. So good! Finally I get to try the Hawaiian bbq that everyone else gets to enjoy. I also got the special egg roll bowl which was unique and tasty. I didn't know this location also had desserts but they do have a small daily selection. Seating is a little limited but I didn't see anyone else while I was waiting. Took about 12 minutes for both dishes to be made. Finding the location is the hardest part. It's down an alleyway past a large bush between the Beet Box Cafe and the Celestial Grocery next door. I walked by a few times looking for signage but there isn't much of any.

AMAZING! This is the first solid vegan meal we’ve had on the island so far. We got the Kahula Jack and breakfast sandwich and they were so delicious. The food was perfect after a day at the beach. The location is just down the alleyway between the beet box and the store next to it.
