Big Wave Burger
About
Catch the Flavor of the North Shore
When you finish a morning watching the surf at Waimea Bay or exploring the galleries of Haleiwa, Big Wave Burger is where the hunger hits home. This isn't your average quick-stop shack; it is a quintessential North Shore experience that captures the unhurried rhythm of island life.
Built for Post-Surf Cravings
The smell of searing beef on the flat-top grill hits you before you even reach the counter. You’ll find locals and visitors alike shedding their sandy flip-flops to grab a seat under the open-air rafters. The menu leans into the classics: thick, juicy patties topped with locally sourced ingredients that don't need fancy garnishes to prove their worth. The signature burger is a masterclass in simplicity, featuring a toasted bun that manages to stay structural even under the weight of house-made special sauce and fresh, crisp lettuce.
Local Vibe and Character
While the food moves fast, the atmosphere encourages you to linger. Expect a soundtrack of reggae and the distant hum of traffic from the main strip, balanced by the friendly banter of staff who probably know the surf report better than the weather channel. Be prepared to navigate the shared picnic tables—it gets busy around lunch, and elbows might brush with a professional surfer or a wandering road-tripper. It’s loud, it’s casual, and it’s arguably the most honest representation of a Haleiwa meal you’ll find on the highway. Don't expect white-tablecloth service; expect to wipe grease off your chin and walk away satisfied.

Came here because they were open later than other shrimp trucks after we finished a long hike to Kaena Point. This was the most delicious shrimp I’ve ever had wow. Honestly incredible! They were fast, had tons of seating, huge pro was they are open later. Mahalo!

Supposedly better than Giovanni’s shrimp truck? Can’t compare as I’ve only tried here. I really liked the shrimp here! My fav was lemon & pepper, then spicy, then garlic & butter. Portion was pretty generous & loved that they allowed you to do half & half flavours. Also the pineapple that they give you, WOW it’s the best pineapple I’ve ever had!!! There’s benches for you to eat at & plenty of parking

Amazing family-run food truck that's been around for 20 years. We got the garlic shrimp plate (of course) and the teriyaki bone-in short ribs plate. Both were excellent and generous in terms of portion. I got double salad to avoid the mound of rice, and ate every single bite with gusto! The buttery garlicky coating on the shrimp was truly amazing, and the sticky sweetness of the beef ribs were welcomed. Condiments include hot sauce and soy sauce I believe. About 17-20 bucks per plate. Only issue were the plethora of flies and birds trying to get a taste of your food while dining at one of their tables - but that can't be helped!
