A View Above the Fairways

Perched overlooking the manicured greens of the Waikele Country Club, this dining spot serves as a quiet retreat from the bustle of central Oahu. The open-air design invites a steady breeze that carries the scent of freshly cut grass, making it a favorite landing spot for golfers finishing a round or locals looking for a relaxed lunch with a vista. You will often find the space buzzing with the clatter of ceramic plates and animated conversations about the day’s play.

Signature Island Flavors

The kitchen leans into local comfort food, with their Oxtail Soup standing out as a genuine crowd-pleaser. The broth is deep and savory, served with the kind of ginger-soy dipping sauce that demands extra rice. Whether you are ordering a classic loco moco or one of their rotating daily specials, the portion sizes are substantial, mirroring the hearty nature of island-style hospitality.

The Practical Side of Waipahu Dining

Getting there is straightforward, though the parking lot can get surprisingly packed during weekend brunch hours. The atmosphere is unpretentious and geared toward groups, families, and solo diners who don't mind a bit of noise from the nearby pro shop. While the pace is laid-back, the service team moves with practiced efficiency to manage the lunchtime rush. If you are exploring the Waipahu area and want a meal that pairs classic Hawaiian favorites with an expansive view of the West Loch mountains, this spot hits the mark without the need for formal attire or reservations.

I’m beginning to learn that some of the best diners are located on a golf course. This one was no exception. The menu was quite extensive consisted mainly Hawaiian, Western, Korean and Japanese. I had the “seasonal special” of deep fried butter fish bones that came in a sauce akin to Chinese steamed fish sauce with Chinese cabbage and rice. It was delicious, the sauce was on point. It was better than other butter fish I have had on the island. The other dish we tried was the Waikele fried chicken with all dark meat. That was also very tasty as well. The service was very good and the sitting area was a bit dated, but still comfortable with a nice view of the driving range.

One of the golf clubs I play with had their February outing at Waikele Country Club, a course we hadn’t played for several years. After the round we had drinks and appetizers at the club’s restaurant. Yay, it was open to golfers! One of the issues that stopped our other club from playing at Waikele was due to the restaurant being booked for private parties. While we understood the rationale, it was disheartening to find that we couldn’t enjoy a post-round meal due to lack of space. Golfers would have to sit out on the patio and there aren’t enough tables and seating if the course is busy. The menu was new (to us) … We opted for the Garlic Fries ($14), Kalua Pork Nachos ($20) and the Fried Chicken Wings ($20), in addition to beers and a Diet Coke for me. Service from two waitstaff were great … The food, not so great. What happened? The fries were fine, the chicken wings looked fine but were a touch overcooked so they were somewhat dry, but the big disappointment was the nachos. Two types of chips, a generous portion of kalua pork, grilled onions, and lots of shredded cheddar (or American) cheese, and spring onion … It should have been great. What let it down was an insufficient amount of sauce. As a result, the dish was dry and underwhelming. I have to give the restaurant a rating of 2.5 to 3; call us disappointed.

Flies, flies, flies! If you don't mind flies buzzing around you and trying to alight on your food or having to send your food back to the kitchen because it's undercooked, then this is the place for you. However, if you prefer not to have to keep waving your hand to keep the flies off your food while you eat, then you may want to choose another location for lunch. The service is really excellent, though.

I'd never been to this establishment before and was surprised at how great it was! There's a nice variety of dishes to choose from on their manu, the service is attentive & friendly, their prices are reasonable, and there's ample free parking. If you go for dinner the sunset views are spectacular! On certain evenings they have local musical groups entertaining diners as well (it can get loud, so request outside dining if you prefer a quieter setting), and membership isn't required for dining. I highly recommend enjoying a lunch or dinner here!

The country club restaurant is OK, nothing to revisit and hardly memorable. Came here for a work holiday luncheon. They did have our table set up well, and served our pre-ordered food all together. I ordered the tempura teishoku, which did come with a heft portion of tempura. There was a dense piece of white fish, 3 shrimp tempura, and assorted veggie tempura like asparagus, shitake mushroom, squash, okinawan sweet potato. Some of the tempura pieces (shrimp) had soggy batter. The salad dressing was pretty good. A coworker got the tonkatsu teishoku, which I got to try, and it was dryyyyyyyy. I did see some large, plump fries which looked pretty food and I'd want to try if I ever come back. A major pain point was the amount of flies. So. Many. Flies. They places the revolving fly fans at our tables, but only 1 fan in the middle of a long table, meaning everyone at the ends were just bombarded with flies. So off-putting. Parking was free and ample. We had auto gratuity of 20% due to large party. Servers were friendly.

The food hear is delicious and served in generously sizes portions. I recently visited for the first time. I ordered the Waikele burger and was not disappointed. The fries were also cooked perfectly. I highly recommend eating OUTSIDE if there are more than a handful of people inside the restaurant. The acoustics were really and in there. It was practically full at lunch so the noise was incredibly loud. Otherwise a great experience. Service was excellent. Had to wait a little at times, but it was a busy lunch time so seemed reasonable.

Called a couple days prior, and made a reservation for 2 at 1030 on a Wednesday. East to get to off the freeway and plenty parking for this time. Walk in, there’s the golf shop on the left and the restaurant up ahead and restrooms on the right. We were about 5 minutes late, but got seated right away at the back left corner. Waitress attentive, but had to come back three times because we were indecisive. Ended up getting the hamburger steak and Waikele Burger - it was cool they stamped my top bun! The burger was messy, and it was good! I had to request for more water. Nice atmosphere, although they were doing gardening with blowers at the time. Next time I’ll probably try their teishoku!
