A Waipahu Staple for Local Comfort Food

Located in the heart of the Waipahu industrial district, this no-frills spot is exactly where you go when you need a genuine taste of Hawaii without the island-resort price tag. It serves as a reliable fueling station for locals working nearby and those craving the quintessential plate lunch experience.

The King of the Plate Lunch

As the name suggests, the menu revolves around the classic loco moco—a heavy, satisfying mountain of white rice, a flame-grilled beef patty, a perfectly fried egg, and a generous pour of savory brown gravy. The kitchen prides itself on consistent, hearty portions that lean into the soul-soothing side of island comfort food. You will also find a rotation of traditional sides like mac salad that hits that precise balance of creamy and tangy, alongside crisp katsu that maintains its crunch even under a blanket of tangy sauce.

Atmosphere and Local Character

Stepping inside, the air smells like caramelized onions and savory meat drippings. The environment is utilitarian and fast-paced, catering to a steady stream of people grabbing lunch to go. It isn't a place for lingering over a long dinner; it is a place for getting a great meal quickly. Be prepared for the bustling nature of the Ukee Street area during the mid-day rush—parking can be a bit of a puzzle when the construction crews and local employees are on their break, but the efficiency of the kitchen staff keeps the line moving steadily.

If you are exploring the Waipahu area and want to eat like the locals do, this is your destination. Whether you are looking for a quick breakfast to jumpstart your morning or a massive plate to satisfy an afternoon hunger, the kitchen delivers a straightforward, unpretentious culinary experience that defines the modern Hawaiian drive-inn culture.

After having waited 40 minutes for a fried saimin, loco moco and fries in a restaurant with sticky floors, so sticky that my slippers was sticking to the cement after leaving, and more than half way through the loco moco, a very visible hair is staring right out of the beef patty!! What a waste of $50!! I dont even want to chance eating the fried noodles!! Health inspector needs to do random checks!

Havent been here in a long time, located in the Waipio Shopping Center next to Big City Diner and where Blockbuster Video used to be (been vacant for years). Prices have gone up a lot since ive last been, $13.99 for chicken plate lunches and $19.99 for a 2 choice combo plate. Wowsers.... Seen a buy one get one free coupon in the local paper so decided to try here....ordered a chicken katsu curry plate and a regular chicken katsu. Plates are made to order so there is a bit of a wait. Like others have said, plates look good but the katsu breading is too thick. The meat separates from the outside layer and i threw most of the breading away. L&L and other places have much better chicken katsu😭 Like to support local but unfortunately doubt ill be returning.... Sorry. A generous 3 stars.
