About
A Waipahu Institution for Local Favorites
If you find yourself navigating the busy thoroughfares of Waipahu, Leeward Drive-Inn serves as a reliable pit stop for those craving traditional island-style comfort food. This spot operates with a no-frills efficiency that defines local roadside dining, offering a menu rooted in the classic drive-in staples that have sustained the community for decades.
Classic Plates and Island Flavors
The kitchen specializes in hefty plate lunches that don't cut corners. Patrons often lean toward their signature beef stew or the crispy fried chicken, which provides that satisfying crunch expected from a reliable local grinds joint. The portions are generous enough to satisfy a post-work appetite, making it a go-to for residents looking for a quick, filling meal without the pretense of a sit-down restaurant.
The Local Experience
Stepping up to the counter, you are met with the familiar rhythm of a busy kitchen—the hiss of the fryer and the clatter of plates are the constant soundtrack here. It is an unpretentious environment, best suited for a quick lunch break or grabbing a takeout box before heading home. While the parking lot can get a bit tight during the peak midday rush, the turnover is fast. It captures the essence of Waipahu dining: honest, straightforward, and focused entirely on providing a hot, comforting meal to the neighborhood.

Fried noodles was delicious. Meat jun was good. Macaroni and potato salad delicious. Plenty food they give you. Teri beef was tender.

If you like turnovers but hate the flaky croissant-like wrapping bakers typically, you'll love the turnovers here. I got both Apple and Okinawan and they were both delicious! They look like an oversized empanada, which in my opinion now makes for a better turnover. I also got a super cheap bacon egg sandwich and it was fantastic for the price point. Highly recommend both!

Went today 1/27. I ordered bbq chicken plate and special fried noodles with bean sprouts and side Teri beef. This is what my fried noodles look like after removing the Teri beef on top. My coworker and I agreed that the noodles were tasteless and don’t taste like the original recipe. Teri beef was ok but the Bbq chicken was very tasty. A bunch of comments saying that the fried noodles are the original and classic recipe but I disagree.
