A Waipahu Staple for Custom Hot Pot
Stepping into Hawaii Pot Shabu Shabu House feels like joining a bustling family dinner where you are the head chef. Located in the heart of Waipahu, this spot has become a local favorite for those craving an interactive dining experience that focuses on fresh, high-quality ingredients.
The Art of the DIY Broth
The magic here lies in the customizable nature of the meal. Patrons can choose from an array of house-made soup bases, ranging from a soothing, mild vegetable stock to the signature spicy mala broth that provides a slow, numbing heat. As you take your seat, the tabletop induction burners hum to life, ready to boil your selection of thinly sliced ribeye, premium pork, and vibrant garden vegetables. You will frequently see groups passing plates of fresh bok choy, enoki mushrooms, and house-made fish cakes across the table, creating a communal rhythm that defines the restaurant.
Atmosphere and Local Flavor
The interior is straightforward and functional, prioritizing the food over ornate decor. It is a loud, energetic space where the clinking of ladles against ceramic bowls is constant. Be prepared for a lingering, savory scent of garlic and chili oil that clings to your clothes—a small trade-off for the depth of flavor delivered in every bite. While parking in this busy Waipahu district can be a bit of a scramble during peak dinner hours, the payoff of a personalized, piping-hot meal makes the search worth the effort.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
Whether you are a hot pot novice or a seasoned regular, the sauce station is the true highlight. Mixing your own ponzu, satay, or sesame chili concoction is a personal ritual for many diners here. It is the ideal destination for weekend gatherings with friends or a casual weeknight meal when you need something comforting, filling, and entirely tailored to your own palate.

Came here on a whim since it was close to my mom’s and it’s honestly now my son’s favorite spot! Tables are a little tightly packed together, but if you can get over that experience, the food itself is phenomenal. You have the option of sharing a family size pot for broth or you can opt for individual soup pots, if everyone wants a different flavor. It is also all you can eat; with a 90 minute time limit, but with how fast everything comes out, it’ll be plenty of time for you. The also allow BYOB where I saw plenty of guests bringing in their own beers an even spirits for consumption. The service was fast, and they came promptly to take our drink, broth, and meat orders and then we had to get up to the fridge to grab other items, such as seafoods, tofus, a variety of dumplings. The other fridge offered plentiful veggies and noodles, and another section was where you can make your custom sauces for dipping. They constantly stocked everything up and everything was always fresh and readily available. My son loved the original broth, which also had goji berries, dates, and green onions for enhanced flavor, and I tried the seafood the first time we went, and the coconut chicken the second time. The seafood was subtle, but offered clams the bottom for a tasty bonus. The original was one you could go wrong with, just the classic hotpot broth that’s hard to mess up. The coconut chicken was a little too rich to me, but it was very flavorful and enhanced any meat or veggie I wanted cooked in it. Gratuity is included already, but of course, it is optional if you would like to leave more. You also pay at the counter too. All in all, very good, one of my son’s new favorite restaurants in Hawaii and will be back when we return!

We came around 2:15 p.m. and were greeted right away. The place was quiet, which made it a relaxing visit. You pick a soup base (I had miso, my friend had chicken & mushroom), then order meats like ribeye, lamb, pork belly, or shabu shabu, and cook them in the hot pot. Signs on the table show the recommended cook times--super helpful! There's also a veggie bar (mushrooms, spinach, corn, etc.), a fridge with seafood and dumplings, plus a sauce station where you can mix your own dips. Everything was fresh and fun to try. The meat quality was solid, service was quick, and drinks are only $1 with free refills. Ambiance is cool too with unique décor. Big thanks to Royal and our server for making it such a smooth, enjoyable experience. We loved it!
