Island-Style Filipino BBQ in the Heart of Waipahu

Walking into Grill City within the Seafood City complex, the first thing that hits you is the unmistakable, charcoal-kissed aroma of pork barbecue skewers searing over an open flame. It is a sensory landmark for those navigating the busy Waipahu shopping scene, offering a casual, counter-service experience that feels like a backyard party in the Philippines.

The Filipino Comfort Food Experience

This spot specializes in the hits of Filipino cuisine. The signature pork BBQ skewers are marinated in a sweet and savory sauce that caramelizes perfectly against the heat, providing that sticky, charred bite every local expects. Alongside the grill station, the steam table is packed with rotating classics—expect hearty servings of crispy lechon kawali, deep-fried pork belly that crunches with every bite, and rich, vinegar-forward chicken adobo. It is the kind of place where you grab a tray, point at what looks best, and find a seat before the steam dissipates from your rice.

Local Vibes and Practical Tips

Grill City captures the high-energy, no-frills atmosphere of a bustling market eatery. Because it is located in a high-traffic retail hub, the environment can get loud, and finding a quick table during the lunch rush requires a bit of patience. It is an ideal stop for a fast, filling meal after shopping or for families picking up bulk take-out platters for a weekend gathering. While the parking lot can be a chaotic dance of commuters, the proximity to other local Waipahu staples makes it a convenient pit stop for those craving an authentic taste of home without the formal wait times of a sit-down restaurant.

Called FIFTEEN times to ask if i can still place an order for a cebuchon since its a short notice and nobody answered NOT ONCE. then i go down there to place an order and the cashier goes “let me ask” she leaves, comes back and says once AGAIN “let me ask” and comes back again just to say its unavailable. Then i explained that i called FIFTEEN times to ask so i dont waste my time going down there and all she had to say was “oh.” No accountability, no sorry whatsoever. Always get the worst customer servjce here but this was my last straw.

Just ate here now in Grill City. So disappointed: 1) Pompano cost $16.50 see charred image combined with absolute dry contents inside the fish. No flavors. As it was dry, I asked for sou sauce. Got the yellow vinegary container image below. Terrible sauce. So not worth the price, and regretfully bought 3 orders if fish 2) Free Side orders mixed with non-free items created confusion (sadly employee wasn't speaking English) so I got charged extra $2. 3) Biko Muskavado: my first taste of this item. The rice in it is grainy like brown rice flavor. It's not sweet and you don't taste the coconut supposedly in it. I don't recommend it. 4) Soup below had scaly fish that overwhelmed the soup. Every sip I took I had to sift the scales outa my mouth. Note the dehydrated green beans. 5) Flies landing on food. Too many of them!! 6) I like eating at Seafood City's that have visited. This is the worst experience for me. Management needs to check the quality of menu output, and layout/placings of products more closely

Super convenient cafeteria-style restaurant located inside the Filipino supermarket Seafood City. I'm addition, they have a grab-and-go refrigerated section with items like jelly pandan and flan, and a "street food" cart with pre-packages foods to go, like arroz caldo and various meats and desserts in a stick. They've also carved out a generous dining space, with widely spaced tables for four in front and on the side of the main buffet. Besides fountain drinks for purchase, they also provide a water cooler with cups for free water. My first-time selection was Laing, which is taro leaves cooked in coconut milk, to which they added shrimp. I got the smallest bowl, and they included one good-sized shrimp. I also was tempted by the grilled salmon, which turned out to be rather acidic and tart - in a good way, like sinigang. At first I thought the cost of the two dishes was rather pricey - around $20 - but realized I'd be getting three meals out of it, which makes it a good deal. While I prefer other Filipino restaurants in the area as my go-to, if you're already shopping in the store, it's not a bad place to grab lunch - portions can easily be shared by two small Asians lol.
