About
A Taste of the Philippines in the Heart of Waipahu
Walking into Golden Coin Bake Shop & Restaurant feels like stepping into a classic Filipino family kitchen. Located right in the heart of Waipahu, this spot has become a local staple for those craving home-style cooking that doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is: honest, hearty, and nostalgic. The air is almost always thick with the savory scent of garlic-heavy adobo and the sweet, buttery aroma of freshly baked goods cooling on wire racks.
Signature Staples and Sweet Treats
While the menu is expansive, the real draw here is the bakery counter. The ube ensaymada is a standout, featuring that distinct vibrant purple yam flavor tucked into a soft, pillowy dough topped with a generous dusting of cheese. It is the kind of treat that pairs perfectly with a morning cup of coffee. For those looking for a full meal, the laing and dinuguan represent the soul of the kitchen—rich, traditional recipes that prioritize depth of flavor over fancy presentation. The portions are generous, often served in a casual, no-frills setting that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the meal.
Local Character
Expect a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere where the clatter of plates and the hum of local chatter provide the soundtrack. It is a busy place, especially during the weekend rush, so be prepared for a slightly cramped interior that only adds to the sense of community. Parking in this busy corridor of Puko Street can sometimes be a test of patience, but for those who know the value of a perfectly executed bibingka or a warm plate of crispy pork, it is a small price to pay. This is the go-to destination for anyone in the O'ahu region looking for an authentic connection to Filipino culinary traditions without any of the pretense.

Came here super early when they opened up. I got a tocino breakfast plate with fried rice and scrambled egg. Even got a fresh Spanish roll too. Really filling and was surprised to see plenty customers at the early hours too. Will come again.

Man I really wanted to like this place! Second try, same issues! Food was cold, adobo, bbq sticks, mungo beans, pancit was cold, hard, just sitting w/o warmers?!? Veg. Lumpia was cold & oily. I threw away most of my food! Hope management fixes this soon!

Can be reasonable. Great selection of Filipino food but so unfriendly. Unless you are familiar with the food, name of food means nothing so we asked a couple of times what they were and ladies were like...annoyed. (Not busy time. We were only two customers at that time.)If you don't want non-filipino customers, why don't you put up a sign?
