Chili's Grill & Bar (shopping at the outlet stores give it a try)
About
Refueling After a Waipahu Shopping Spree
After a long morning navigating the aisles at the nearby Waipahu outlet centers, the familiar scent of sizzling fajitas and spiced seasoning makes Chili’s Grill & Bar a go-to pit stop for locals and visitors alike. Located right in the heart of the retail hub, this spot offers a reliable, high-energy environment that caters to families and groups of friends looking to decompress without a formal dress code.
The Classic Chili’s Flavor Profile
The kitchen here maintains the brand’s signature focus on Southwestern-inspired comfort food. You will find the aroma of caramelized onions and bell peppers drifting from the open kitchen, signaling that the classic fajita skillets are on their way to a table. Their menu leans into hearty portions, whether you are after their iconic baby back ribs, glazed with a sticky, smoky barbecue sauce, or a refreshing Presidente Margarita to toast to your successful bargain hunting.
Atmosphere and Local Nuances
The interior is quintessential casual dining—wide booths, dimmed lighting, and multiple screens broadcasting the latest sports games, which keeps the energy level high. Be prepared for the space to get quite busy during the evening hours as shoppers wrap up their day; the buzz of conversation and the clatter of plates create a lively, albeit sometimes loud, backdrop. While parking in this high-traffic commercial area can occasionally be a bit of a scramble, the convenience of having a substantial meal right next to the retail action makes it worth the effort. It is the kind of place where you don’t need to worry about the chaos of a full shopping bag or tired feet—you just sit back, enjoy a bottomless basket of chips and house-made salsa, and recharge for the drive home.

I placed an order for pickup because I had my toddler with me, and it’s much easier to do takeout that way. When we arrived, there was no one at the front, so we went to the To Go sign by the bar. We stood there and were completely ignored by the employees. After waiting for a while, I finally stopped a waitress to ask where I could pick up my food. I likely would have continued being ignored if I hadn’t flagged someone down myself. She told me to go to the other end of the bar, so I did—only to be ignored again. At that point, I was getting really irritated. It wasn’t like I was standing there alone unnoticed—I had my toddler in my arms the entire time. The lack of acknowledgment and poor service already made for a frustrating experience. To make matters worse, once I got back to the car, I realized they hadn’t even included a fork with my order. Then when I finally ate the food, the chicken was extremely dry and completely tasteless. Overall, the service and food quality were both disappointing.

Food tasted okay. Definitely not as good as it used to be years ago. Our server was friendly. Downsides: they Sat us in the corner next to their cleaning supplies (only 2-3 feet away from our table). Every so often, a server would come next to us and spray their paper towels with some kind of cleaning chemical and the spray particles would be near us. We asked to sit in a booth but they said “we don’t have any available” even though there were a bunch open. Biggest downside, which will probably be the reason I’d never come back to this restaurant again in the cleanliness of the restaurant. My drinking glass looked like it hadn’t been washed! (Pictured below). Unfortunately, I didn’t realize until I was halfway done with my drink that there was lipstick (not mine) on the cup! Before he gave me a straw I did drink straight from the cup & that really grossed me out. When I told my server, he just said “I’m so sorry, that’s really gross!” The floors also looked really dirty and the place had a weird smell.

Food is fine and the service staff was great. Our waiter was very friendly. The biggest problem with this Chili's is the overall cleanliness. Tables are sticky, the booth we sat in had a rip that was about 10 inches long with a spring popping out of it. There is a weird smell throughout the restaurant - kind of like a childrens ball pit. Overall the interior has a neglected feel.

Great experience at Chili’s Waikele! We were initially seated in an area that was super cold, but when I asked to be moved, they accommodated us right away with no hesitation. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. Our food came out fresh and tasted great, exactly what you’d expect from Chili’s. Overall, the service really stood out. Comfortable seating, good food, and genuinely friendly staff made for a very enjoyable visit. We’ll definitely be back!

Honestly, this was not my best Chili's experience on the island. The dining area was way too cold and the seat in my booth was broken. I ordered a Kona light and was given an IPA (which tastes nothing like a light beer) and when I told the waitress, she took it back and came back with the same beer, which was $8.99 mind you. Additionally, I got chicken crispers which were undercooked (see picture) and my big mouth bites were lukewarm and chewy. I think I will be sticking with the Mililani Chili's in the future.
