Overview & Vibe
Tucked away in the quiet, local-centric neighborhoods of Aiea, Ice Garden is a hidden treasure that serves as a nostalgic time capsule for many Oahu residents. Located on the second floor of a unassuming three-story strip mall, this family-run spot avoids the polished aesthetic of Waikiki tourist traps in favor of pure, authentic flavor. The atmosphere is humble and unpretentious—a place where you go specifically for the craft of the shave ice. Whether you are coming from a visit to the nearby Pearl Harbor National Memorial or just looking to beat the tropical heat, the gentle hum of the shave ice machine and the friendly faces of the local owners create a welcoming, homey vibe that keeps regulars returning for decades.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
Ice Garden distinguishes itself from competitors through its creative, non-traditional toppings and perfect syrup-to-ice ratio.
- #7 Special: The ultimate local favorite, featuring finely shaved ice drizzled with sweet condensed milk, topped with rich, velvety custard pudding and chewy mochi balls. Adding the house-made oatmeal is a secret local hack that provides a surprising, comforting texture.
- Traditional Halo-Halo: A new staple on the menu, this Filipino-inspired delight is packed with shaved ice, evaporated milk, and a vibrant medley of colorful fruits and sweet beans.
- Customized Shave Ice: Many guests appreciate the technique here: syrups are applied with precision so the bottom layer of ice remains plain, allowing you to control the sweetness of every bite.
Insider Dining & Tips
Because Ice Garden is a local institution, it stays busy, especially on weekends when you might find a constant line stretching down the corridor. Pro tip: Visit during weekday afternoons to avoid the weekend rush. This is a strictly cash-only establishment, so ensure you have enough on hand before arriving; while there is an ATM nearby, the fees can be steep. Since seating is limited, embrace the local style by grabbing your bowl and heading to the benches in the mall's open-air breezeway.
Location & Parking
Ice Garden is located at 99-080 Kauhale St, Aiea, in a complex easily spotted near the local McDonald’s. Parking is available within the mall complex, though it can become tight during peak hours. Being located on the second floor of an indoor-style mall area, it offers a cool, air-conditioned respite from the Hawaiian sun. It is a perfect quick stop after exploring the historic sites at Pearl Harbor or shopping at the nearby Pearlridge Center.

A Different Kind Of Shaved Ice
We just happened upon this place on a warm Hawaiian day. They had a different twist on flavoring which was right up my husbands alley. They put just enough syrup on the top leaving the underneath plain. I enjoyed being able to have a bite without the syrup and ones with. Check this place out if you’re in the area.

Best shaved ice in Aiea
This place has been here since I was a kid and I never appreciated it until I moved away. It was always run by two older ladies, and in the last couple years, looks like it taken over by a family, husband, wife, and the young teen son helps out. It’s one of the best shaved ice you can have on the island, the one the locals know about, love, and far away from touristy areas, except Arizona memorial and the stadium. It’s in a 3 story strip mall next to Mc Donald’s in the air conditioned building on the 2nd floor, and make sure you bring cash, it’s CASH ONLY, although there is an atm outside, it probably charges an arm and a leg. The menu is numbered with pictures, and it’s unique bc they offer pudding that’s to die for on top, taro, oatmeal(sounds weird and I would never think to put this on shaved ice, but it’s my favorite topper, mochi balls, ice cream, azuki beans. My favorite is the #7, and it consists of condensed milk on shaved ice with pudding and mochi balls and I add oatmeal (attached a picture of this goodness) my kids won’t eat oatmeal, but they will on shaved ice. If you love shaved ice, you have to try this place, there is a constant line on weekends, but it’s worth the wait!!!! New item: Halo Halo

Tried and true favorite
Lots of syrup, lots of toppings. Not much for seating but you can also sit on the benches outside in the “mall” area.
