Safeway Deli (98-1277 Kaahumanu Street)
About
Fresh Ingredients in the Heart of Aiea
When you are navigating the busy corridors near Pearlridge and need a meal that balances convenience with actual substance, the deli counter inside the Kaahumanu Street Safeway is a local mainstay. It serves as a reliable pitstop for residents and commuters who prioritize efficiency without wanting to sacrifice flavor. The scent of roasted rotisserie chicken hits you the moment you round the corner, a familiar aroma that distinguishes this deli from standard grocery aisles.
The Go-To for Quick Island Lunches
This spot shines brightest for its custom sandwich builds and pre-packaged meal solutions. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch before heading to the nearby business centers or picking up a reliable dinner option for a busy weeknight in Aiea, the variety is substantial. The staff here keeps the assembly line moving briskly, though keep in mind that peak lunch hours often result in a queue that snakes past the salad prep station. It is a no-frills environment, but the freshness of the sliced meats and crisp produce holds its own.
Practical Dining Tips
The space is built for carry-out, so do not expect a sprawling dining room; it is best to grab your order and head to a local park or back to the office. The highlight remains the value-to-quality ratio, especially for the signature hoagies that are significantly more generous than your average fast-food offering. If you have a specific bread preference, get there early, as their sourdough and wheat options tend to vanish by mid-afternoon. It is a quintessential neighborhood resource for anyone living or working in the Aiea area who appreciates a straightforward, honest meal on the move.

Stopped by Safeway this morning, Couldn't find a few things we needed on the floor. Justin was awesome! Helped us find what we needed and even made a trip to the back to grab something that wasn't put on the floor yet. Thank you Justin!

I live just two minutes away from this location, so I visit their deli when I'm ono for it. I often encounter the associate named LUZ, her customer service, on average is subpar. She always doesn't seem very happy to be there, and she does not hesitate to make her customers feel that. It never bothered me, nonetheless. Today, however, I stood in line behind a mother and her son. Luz was tending to them as I waited for my turn, then LUZ just started asking, in a very loud manner, several times "ANYTHING ELSE?!?", while the mom and son were deciding (in an uncomfortable way, as she was pressuring them). As I observed this, I couldn't help to notice how rude this behavior was for a customer service staff. I continued to mind my own, until she then turns to me, and RUDELY says, "CAN I HELP YOU?!?". So, I answered that she is being very rude to the customers in front of me and that she needs to exercise patience because they are not finished yet. The boy thanked me for giving them more time, and he shows photos on his phone of what they needed more, LUZ, showing irritation towards the mom and the son, demands the phone so she can see for herself. Which again is not a very ideal way treat customers when you are representing a company like Safeway. No Aloha. Nothing. Just sheer rudeness. Fortunately, Judith was there. She smiled and patiently helped the mom and son instead, then helped me afterwards. The boy thanked me for showing patience, something LUZ did not, I personally commend and thank JUDITH for showing professionalism and ALOHA. That's what SAFEWAY is all about - ALOHA from staff like JUDITH. LUZ, however, needs to be corrected by the management ASAP. I understand working in customer service is not easy, sometimes even frustrating, we are just humans after all. However, the mom and the son, and I, were not demanding excellent service from LUZ. Just patience, and lack of rudeness (to say the least) will be appreciated next time. FIVE STARS for JUDITH ONE STAR for LUZ

What really sets it apart is the beer aisle. It has way more variety than the other big name supermarkets in the island. If you're a beer lover, this is easily the best supermarket stop for it.

Poor customer service at the deli today. I went to the deli today (17 Dec 25 ay 315pm) and was argued with by a male employee over some chicken and sides. I specifically asked for Joe Joe's or potatoe wedges and was told no, we don't have any. When I asked if more could be made he said no. Not wanting to argue back I agreed to mac and cheese and brocolli. Shortly after I passed by the deli again to see him drop potatoe wedges in the fryer. His attitude, body language, and a general I couldn't care less attitude is a far fall from what Saeway prides itself on. Maybe he just didn't get a hug today, but if this is his attitude towards customers, I wouldn't be surprised if others have experienced this lack of service.

Safeway is my go-to place for gift cards! They have a great assortment for all kinds of stores, online sites, and restaurants that you can find here in Hawaii or the mainland. Today I saw Xbox, PlayStation Now, Google Play, Apple, Amazon, Spotify Premium, Netflix, Regal, Sling, Hulu, Best Buy, Macy's, Uber, eBay, Starbucks, Target, T.J Maxx, Cheesecake Factory, CPK, Papa John's, Disney, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Delta, JCPenney, Crate & Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, Home Depot, Lowe's, and Outback, and that's not all! If you don't know what gift card the recipient would want, they also have Visa! Of course, they give a receipt that you can attach to the gift card you purchased so the person knows how much it's for & can have proof of the amount. I love the variety! Thanks Safeway!

Safeway gets 4 stars for finally getting all the Boarshead meats I love and eat. They are way more clean than foodland and closer for me as well. I still wouldn't do all my shopping there because they are way to expensive for everything else but the occasional item or emergency item is fine. They also have Late July chips and snacks as well. So they have hard to find items that you just can't find any where else. Finally found the creamer we use at a relatively decent price.

Convenient location with plenty parking, staff is very friendly and always good stock. Of you looking for bread, it will be all the way to the left by charcuterie side. They have ATM’s and car registration and red box machine too. Fruits always fresh al well organized same as the the departments, one thing I noticed is that employees in this location are always working on their merchandising and cleaning so the place looks neat and I like that as a customer experience because everything is more organized and presentable. They also have a great flowers and arrangements department behind the fruits and veggies side, they do a lot of beautiful work, one of my favorites too so I don’t have to go more than one place for this.

Nice medium sized store with a Bakery, Deli, Fish Market and Floral section. Building has an older look on the exterior but signage inside looks newer. Bakery looks to be the central bakery for several stores and they have about six people working there at 5PM on a Thursday. Staff was good but could be friendlier like other stores. Surprise was that they carry ice cream cakes regularly!
