Overview & Vibe
For those arriving in Maui and seeking a no-nonsense, high-impact meal, Acevedo's Hawaicano is a legendary local haunt. Tucked away in an industrial area of Kahului near the airport, this hidden gem represents the perfect fusion of Hawaiian comfort and authentic Mexican flavors. The vibe is strictly 'local-kine'—unpretentious, fast-paced, and wildly popular with residents and visitors in the know. Don't expect white tablecloths; expect giant portions and bold, savory heat that hits the spot after a long flight.
Menu Highlights & Must-Try Dishes
Acevedo's is best known for the sheer scale of its culinary offerings. The signature Massive Burrito is the stuff of island legend; often described as weighing several pounds, these burritos are packed with a hearty blend of rice, beans, and seasoned proteins that can easily be stretched into two meals. The Carne Asada Tacos are another crowd favorite, praised for their perfectly grilled, tender meat that pairs beautifully with their fresh, zesty housemade salsa. Whatever you choose, don't skip a bag of their Housemade Chips—they are the perfect vessel for their robust, flavorful salsas.
Insider Dining & Tips
Acevedo's is not a place for reservations, nor does it require one. It is a quick-service, walk-in establishment. Because it is located just minutes from OGG (Kahului Airport), it serves as the ultimate 'first stop' for hungry travelers. If you want to avoid the heaviest lunch rush, try arriving just before noon or during the mid-afternoon lull. Be aware that this is a popular spot with the local workforce, so expect a line during peak lunch hours. Always check their board for daily specials, as they often incorporate fresh local ingredients.
Location & Parking
Finding Acevedo's is part of the Maui adventure. Located at 190 Alamaha St, Suite 7A, in Kahului, it sits within a commercial business complex. Parking is strictly limited to the shared lot in front of the building. It is a tight space, so be mindful of other drivers maneuvering in and out of the complex. It is ideally situated if you are heading from the airport toward the North Shore or Upcountry Maui, making it a strategic fueling stop before your island exploration begins.

A Perfect First Stop When Visiting Maui
Per a friend's recommendation, this was our first stop after arriving at OGG and picking up our rental car. What a great find! The burritos are HUGE--I wound up saving half of mine and reheating it later. But it was so delicious and really the perfect first meal to have upon arrival.

They Weren't Wrong!
We met a couple of firefighters from Texas at a table next to ours one day in Paia. We struck up a conversation, as you do when on vacation, and these two veteran firefighters talked about these incredible burritos that weigh five pounds and delight the taste buds. They gave us the name, Acevedo's, and suggested we do a half day fasting before heading there. :) They. Weren't. Wrong. The carne asada tacos were also a taste sensation as was the salsa and housemade chips. You think you have had a good burrito? Nah. Think again, but consider a half day of fasting before you order. :)~ SO SO good.

DO NOT GO HERE OVERPRICED
Poor food quality NOW. Had eaten here several times in past and the burritos were good with plenty of meat. But we will never eat here again.
I paid $50 FOR TWO BURRITOS THAT HAD ONLY ONE SMALL PIECE OF MEAT IN IT.
ALL RICE LITTLE BEANS AND NO MEAT.
ALSO THIS TIME ALL THE PRICES ON THE MENU WERE TAPED OVER SO YOU ORDERED BLIND. AVOID THIS PLACE IT IS A RIP OFF.
