Smokehouse BBQ
About
A Smoky Haven on Front Street
Finding high-quality, slow-cooked comfort food in the heart of West Maui often leads hungry travelers straight to the open-air charm of Smokehouse BBQ. This local staple captures the essence of traditional smokehouse cooking, blending mainland barbecue techniques with the relaxed, breezy atmosphere of Lahaina. When the wind hits just right, the scent of hickory-smoked brisket carries all the way down the boardwalk, signaling that the daily batch is ready.
The Art of the Pit
The kitchen here prioritizes patience over speed. Their signature platters feature meats that have spent hours in the smoker, resulting in that distinct pink smoke ring and a texture that pulls apart with minimal effort. While the ribs are a standout, many regulars swear by the pulled pork sandwiches, which strike a balance between savory, charred bark and tender, juicy meat. You will want to grab extra napkins—the house-made barbecue sauce is served generously and isn't afraid to get a little messy.
What to Expect
This isn't a white-tablecloth establishment; it is a laid-back spot designed for refueling after a day of snorkeling or browsing the nearby art galleries. Expect the volume to climb during the lunch rush, as locals and tourists alike crowd the wooden benches to escape the tropical sun. While the seating is efficient and can feel a bit snug when the place is packed, the counter service moves quickly. It is an ideal stop for families or beachgoers looking for a hearty, authentic meal that hits the spot without any unnecessary pretense. Whether you are grabbing a quick tray to take down to the oceanfront or settling in with a cold drink, you get exactly what the sign promises: honest, smoked goodness in the center of the island’s most historic town.

Just as fresh and delicious as ever. The owner treats me like Royalty. Great food and local color. I'm hoping you were safe from the fire. I had to temporarily move off island , but as soon as I return I'm gonna order up chicken wings and slaw.

Food was ok, cornbread was stale. Coleslaw tasted store bought, bbq ribs were good. Pulled pork sandwich was good. Now the place inside is filthy, 5 tvs on walls not working, Tired , old, decor. The whole I kept thinking how I would make this place over into a destination people would love. I also wondered if the restaurant was this filthy in plain site, what does the kitchen look like?

The baby back pork ribs are amazing. Best bbq that we have had anywhere on Maui. This place is a bit of a dive-bar and that makes it all the better. Great local ambiance, NOT a touristy spot. If you like bbq, you need to try this place.

Best cornbread, wings, smoked beef ribs and chicken, even sides of coleslaw and fries were made right.

i wanna thank Joe the owner for resolving this issue. He displayed great customer service and instilled high standards of professionalism. Many mahalos Joe I went there last night, I ordered an old fashion, 2 Manhattans and a $3.00 french fries. The bartender charged me for 3 tropical drinks at $10.00 a piece and seafood salad at $12.99 I guest I paid for his food. My bill was over $43.00 dollars What deceitful bartender he must like stealing from the customers. I will be speaking to the owner. it was a young bartender.

We love this place. We are guests here for past 20 years. Food is reliable, always wonderful. Located off beat tracks, the place is a delightful find. The cheerful owner offers a dragon sauce for those who like it spicy, and an amazing coconut corn bread to start with. Never disappointed.

Pork Ribs fell off the bone and had a good flavor; the ribs were better than the chicken, but we're from Iowa so we've had REALLY AWESOME BBQ. Definitely casual, not upscale at all

The ribs were very good. Well smoked and sauce was good with the ribs. Also had the chicken which was enjoyable. My favorite was the baked beans. Very rich in flavor and hearty. To end my meal the person came to us with hot washcloths to clean our hands. Love this attention to details. Don’t pass this place up when you are visiting Wish I took photos but was too busy eating.

This place was so much fun. Great BBQ and a friendly atmosphere. Everyone there except my wife and myself was a local and they couldn't have made us feel more welcome. Big NFL fans, lots of TV's and very reasonable pricing (especially compared to options on Front St). Has its own free parking. Don't pass up the Adobo, really excellent. Thanks guys.

Meat didn't taste smoked at all. Sauce was obviously from bottle or jar. Fried shrimp was tasty and hot though not exactly fresh. Beer was not fresh....think I got the end of the keg. Guys that worked there were nice. Don't think I'll be going back.
