Miso Phat

On my trip to Hawaii Maui, one of the places I definitely had to go was Miso Phat Sushi. I was super nervous because I thought I wouldn't get a table, since I'd heard amazing things about it and knew it was always packed, especially because the interior isn't very spacious. But when I walked in, I waited 5 minutes and a table was already ready for me. Everything was perfect, and the waitress's friendliness made the experience even better! I would definitely go back without hesitation.

Miso Phat has ruined all other sushi restaurants for me. Their fish is really fresh and they are sliced generously. They don’t take reservations, so the wait can be long. Someone told us that it’s faster if you order to go and take it back to your hotel to eat. However, I wanted the full experience so we waited for a table. The restaurant itself is not very big, but the turnover of tables is pretty fast, so they seem to be able to accurately predict how long you will wait. It is one of those places where everyone who works there is really nice and so is the clientele.

Tnt roll is a *MUST* Very generous portion!! Its the right most roll with that pile of fish on top🥰 Bar and table seating available, but i wouldnt walk in with more than 4 people. If you have a group its in your best interest to call ahead as space is very limited. Kind staff, quick service, freshest cuts ever

I don't really know where to start. When we first walked in I was smacked with a smell of fish. Just because you are a sushi place, it shouldn't smell like a fishing dock. That instantly turned me off. They have very limited seating and what they have is all bar stools that are so uncomfortable. For the elderly in our group it was hard and for our young ones the stools are very unsafe. If you don't like fish, don't come here. There is absolutely no choices for you other than sushi. I got the tempura roll. It was by far the worst sushi/tempura roll I've ever had. First off it had the seaweed on the outside. We ordered six rolls and mine was the only one with seaweed on the outside. I can't eat sushi made like that (I did not dock stars for this because I understand this is a sushi chef choice and my personal preference). But what made it all not okay was the fact that my tempura shrimp was cold, so over cooked that the tempura was as hard as a rock and the shrimp had been so overcooked that it had shriveled up to almost nothing. If I had not eaten the sushi the way I had (pulled the seaweed off and ate the insides with a fork) I would have bit into a rock hard piece of tempura. Disgusting. On top of my roll, the spicy tuna was not spicy at all. The fish was not super fresh. The piece sizes are so huge you can't fit the whole piece in your mouth and it becomes a huge mess. The reason I kept two stars is because the staff was very nice and my husband enjoyed the two rolls he had. But he said it wasn't the best sushi he's ever had. For all the high reviews and large amount of reviews, I had high expectations. Those expectations were not met. We will not be back.

A truly delightful local Japanese gem! Today, I treated myself to the sunomono salad, the 'Catch of the Day' local fish sashimi combo, and the furikake Mahi Mahi. Everything was incredibly fresh—you can really taste the quality in every bite. The atmosphere is wonderful, and the staff are so welcoming and genuinely kind. It’s the kind of place that feeds your soul as much as your appetite. If you're looking for authentic flavors and a warm smile, this is the spot! ❤️

Came here 5 years ago and Miso Phat still reigns supreme. We went to a very disappointing dinner the night before at a world renowned restaurant in the grand Wailea, but tonight at Miso Phat they completely turned things around for us! The service was outstanding from start to finish and the staff made us feel like part of the Miso Phat family. The fish was incredibly fresh and buttery, and every dish was excellent. The team was attentive, welcoming, and clearly takes pride in what they do. It was a completely different experience and honestly a million times better than our night before. Amazing food, great service, and such a warm atmosphere. We’ll absolutely be back. Don’t ever change! Keep doing what you guys do best!

We loved Miso Phat Sushi so much that we ended up going twice during our trip. The sushi was incredibly fresh, the portions were generous, and everything we tried was delicious. We also loved that it’s BYOB, which makes it even better since you don’t have to pay typical restaurant alcohol prices. My favorite roll was the TNT Roll (Miso the Bomb). It was so flavorful and easily one of the best rolls we had. We also ordered the Local Roll both times, which features the fresh catches of the day. The butterfish and hamachi kama were also recommended to us and were insanely delicious. If you’re looking for fresh sushi and great portions in a laid-back spot, this place is definitely it!!!

GO EARLY! Or don’t, I guess. It’s up to you. But don’t complain about waiting in line for two hours because you can’t figure your life out; there’s a McDonald’s around the corner for the children among us. For the adults, a quick heads up: Park in the “visitor” spots, not the numbered spots. Bring your own adult beverage of choice (you can buy it at the convenience shop next door). Leave the kids behind, if you can. And ask for the Local Roll. It wasn’t on the menu, but it had fresh “catch of the day” fish, and was visually stunning and delightfully delicious. Miso Phat has the best sushi on Maui (that I could find), and is some of the best sushi I’ve ever had, period. It’s a small shop with only a handful of tables, but the owner/executive chef slices fish and builds rolls right in front of you. You can’t beat that.
