A Sweet Taste of Local Tradition

Stepping up to the counter at Maika'i Lani Malasadas in the heart of Lahaina feels like discovering a well-kept secret. The air is thick with the sweet, yeasty scent of frying dough and caramelized sugar, a siren song that pulls you in from the sun-drenched streets. These aren't just donuts; they are warm, pillowy pockets of indulgence that reflect the soul of island comfort food.

The Perfect Island Grab-and-Go

This spot is ideal for those who prefer an informal, flavor-first approach to breakfast or a midday sugar kick. You will often find locals queuing up, eager to grab a box before heading toward the coast. The menu centers on the Portuguese-inspired malasada, fried to golden perfection. You can keep it classic with a generous dusting of granulated sugar or opt for fillings that range from traditional custard to seasonal tropical fruit jellies. If you visit, be prepared for a slightly slower pace—they fry every batch to order, meaning your treat arrives hot enough to require a moment before the first bite.

Refined Simplicity in West Maui

While the footprint is compact and the parking in this historic West Maui town can occasionally test your patience, the reward is immediate. There is no pretense here. You are here for the texture—crispy, light, and airy—and the nostalgia that comes with a fresh malasada. Whether you are fueling up for a day of exploring Maui or simply hunting for the best local snack in the Lahaina area, these dough-based treasures deliver an authentic, buttery experience that pairs perfectly with a strong cup of Kona coffee.

A great place to celebrate my birthday in Maui🌺 The staff were so friendly and welcoming. I’m very impressed with the front desk hostess for addressing me by my name when I returned to let her know we got the message that our table was ready. A personal touch compared to my experience with the hostess at Hula Grill earlier in the week. Our server was patient and answered everything we needed clarification on. We got our request to have a table with an ocean view & sunset. The food is delicious and the dessert is amazing. We are grateful we chose Leilani’s for our last night in Maui & to celebrate my birthday.

The absolute best place to eat across all the islands. I cannot overstate this, of the 2 weeks we spend island hopping from O'ahu to Maui to Big Island, Leilani's was perfection upon perfection. The locals tell you about this place and it is all the rave and then some. With beautiful views of the Ka'anapali beach, the staff will seat you quickly, soft ambient live music will play, and you'll sink into the the Maui evening with the finest food around. We tried the iconic fish taco and hurricane ahi bowl, and the flavours were immaculate. With beautiful garnishes, reductions and salad, both meals were packed with juice and flavour. The portion size was perfect and the price was too! During the meal we couldn't help but notice many other tables getting a large slice of some delicious dessert which we quickly learnt was their staple hula pie. We ordered a slice and wow! The size was immense, but the flavour? Heavenly. It's like the first bite of a Cornetto over and over again. Cold, sweet, light, fluffy, nutty, chocolatey, perfect. As the sun passed the staff quickly remove the shade screens and turn on the lighting, allowing you to catch the ombre sky as day shifts to night. There is truly no meal better served than the food at Leilani's and it is a must visit while out in Maui. Mahalo for the mouthwatering meal! I want more just typing this!

I highly recommend if you are staying in the area. The food was very tasty. I especially enjoyed the calamari! You must also try the Hula pie. Large enough piece of pie that it’s easily shared by 4 people! The food was served quickly and the server was fantastic. She was polite, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. The atmosphere is great, especially if you are seated on the second level. Great ocean views!
