A Slice of Maui Tradition

Situated just south of the main Lahaina strip in the scenic Olowalu region, Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop is the go-to spot for travelers driving along the Honoapiilani Highway. The air inside is thick with the scent of caramelized sugar and roasting meats, a warm greeting that cuts through the tropical humidity. It is a bustling, no-frills space where the hum of tourists and locals creates a constant, energetic soundtrack.

The Main Attraction

You cannot talk about Leoda's without mentioning their pies. Whether you opt for the Macadamia Nut Chocolate or the signature Banana Cream, these personal-sized crusts are legendary for a reason. But the kitchen delivers much more than just dessert. The menu leans heavily into elevated American comfort food, featuring house-made sausages and bread baked fresh every single morning. Their Reuben, stacked thick with house-cured corned beef and tangy sauerkraut on toasted rye, is a meal that commands your full attention.

Know Before You Go

Expect a queue. Because this roadside staple has become a fixture for anyone navigating the West Maui coastline, the line often spills out the door. Parking can be a bit of a dance, especially during the peak lunch rush, as vehicles shuffle in and out of the small gravel lot. If you are grabbing a meal to go, find a nearby pull-off at a coastal viewpoint to enjoy your pie while watching the Pacific swells. It is the kind of place that rewards patience, offering a genuine taste of Maui's agricultural history through ingredients sourced right from the island.

The food was amazing, especially the homemade bread, it really set the sandwiches apart. Ordering was simple, and the service was smooth. The atmosphere was chill, and there was even a chicken walking around, which made it memorable. The desserts were super good, and the sandwiches are a must get. @meta.max

Overrated. Its on the must do Maui list....so we did. Unfortunately this did not meet our expectations. They had 1 coconut pie left, we bought it along with a chocolate one. The coconut pie didn't taste like coconut at all. 4 of us tried it. And no one liked it. The chocolate one was good, BUT it literally just tastes like chocolate pudding in a very hard to cut pie crust. We stayed in west maui so we drove by every day, had we gone out of the way for this, I would have been VERY disappointed. There's better dessert on the island. These are also very sloppy looking (see photos), and maybe 6 inches in diameter.

Leoda’s is a must when visiting Maui. This roadside diner has all the vibes. Pull into the parking lot under the shady tree canopy and prepare for hearty sandwiches and tasty pies. We had the seared ahi and the avocado cucumber sandwiches…both delicious! The seared ahi was a bit salty, but the grilled bread was toasted to perfection for a satisfying crunch but still soft in the middle. The sandwiches were so big we took the second with us and enjoyed later on the beach after snorkeling. We also had the pineapple slaw. The flavor was good, but heavy on the mayo dressing. The chocolate coconut pie was delish. Crispy flaky crust is the perfect vehicle for the creamy coconut center and the fluffy chocolate mousse. Next time around we want to try the hot dog with the pineapple slaw! Pro tip: we went for an early lunch right after opening and there was hardly a wait.

Apparently this is the place to get a good pie in Maui, so I'm glad we came for a visit. I think we ended up making a bad choice with the Chocolate haupa aka Chocolate coconut pie. The chocolate was very rich so no doubt about that but I think personally I did not enjoy the flavor. We got this one because we heard that coconut is a thing to try in general. But overall I would highly recommend going with your gut feeling and if we had to do it again we would have gotten the key lime pie! There was also a banana cream pie which looked really nice!

Don't get overwhelmed by the long line, this place is popular for a reason. This was my first time eating here, and despite the line we were actually able to grab a table goof for the 5 of us. My ultimate favorite was the beef and potatoes pot pie! The beef is soft almost melts in your mouth. We had 3pies, the apple, chocolate haupia, and chocolate mac nut. For me the chocolate mac nut is the best! You clean after you eat, and they have a decent bathroom too. I'd definitely be back for that pot pie!!! 💖💖💖

All I know is that if I could only eat one dessert for the rest of my life, it would be Leoda’s chocolate macadamia nut pie. It’s always a must when we come to Maui. My husband even packed this pie in a cooler for me when he traveled to Maui without me. It survived the six hour plane ride and is one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. That’s true love. The coconut cream pie is good. However, I feel like it could use a little bit more coconut flavor. We tried the peanut butter pie for the first time and although tasty, you can only eat a couple of bites, it’s very rich. Leoda’s, please expand and open a location in San Diego, California! Mahalo!!!

We stopped at Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop while in Maui and it absolutely lived up to the hype. There’s always a line out the door, but don’t let that scare you off, the service moves fast and the staff keeps things flowing smoothly. I had the chicken and waffles, which were fresh, crispy, and perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. My wife ordered the Lahaina Dog and loved it, great flavor and done just right. Everything tasted fresh and made with care. Definitely worth the wait every time we’re on the island.

Stopped here on our way back to the resort and happy we did! They have a lot of different options for pie which all looked delicious! Ended up trying the apple and coconut cream pies which were so good! The apple crumb topping was so delicious, and the coconut cream pie was perfect! The pies, although mini, can easily be split between two people! Lunch was good but nothing crazy. I had the club which was fine, but I would likely try something else next time. The Reuben sandwich good and had a lot of flavor. The line does tend to be long, but you have the option to order online ahead of time. The service is also very quick so we didn’t wait very long. Finally, the prices are on the higher end considering we paid $50 for two sandwiches and some fries. I would skip on lunch and just for the pies!

We went for a quick dinner around 5pm and there was plenty of seating but limited pie selection as everything was pretty much sold out. My wife had the Beef and Potato Pot Pie and hand cut fries with aioli sauce and was delicious! I had an Egg / Bacon sandwich, bread was very fresh, bacon crispy and delicious, egg done just right! I had the Lemonade for my drink it to was awesome. For desert we got a Olaodu Lime pie and a Chocolate Haupia. Both excellent! Total was $95

While traveling down the Honoapiilani Highway from the South side of the Island to Napili Bay, we decided to make a stop at the local store for a cold drink and a sweet treat at the adjacent pie shop. Having visited Maui over 35 times, I can’t believe I have never stopped here having driven by at least 100 times. And boy am I glad I finally did! Welcome to Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop. Tucked in right along the main coastal highway, in the Lahaina Area, this place is a hidden Gem! They have loads of food offerings and amazing pies, fresh baked bread and even banana bread. There is a nice long table with stools for outdoor seating as well as a large number of tables for seating indoors. We luckily landed in between waves of customers and were able to pop right up to the register without delay. We were greeted by super friendly staff, ready to take our order and answer any questions we had. At the ordering station you can clearly see into the clean kitchen, offering a nice glimpse of the delicious food they are preparing and staging to bring to the tables. Today was pie day since we wanted to take something to go to enjoy while we were on the beach. They have a wide variety of pies and even a no bake strawberry pie that another guest reported to us, was super delicious. If you’re looking for a nice spot to enjoy a lunch or dinner, or just a sweet treat along your way around the island, I highly recommend a visit to Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop. I promise you won’t regret it. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and hope you have a lovely time on the island of Maui. Mahalo and Happy Eating! 🤙👍
