Oceanfront Flavors in the Heart of Lahaina

Steps away from the historic Front Street energy, Happy Fish brings a relaxed approach to fresh, island-caught seafood. This isn't your typical white-tablecloth experience; it’s where you find the salt-air breeze mixing with the scent of ginger-soy glaze and seared ahi.

The Catch of the Day

The menu highlights the bounty of the Pacific, with the macadamia nut-crusted catch being a consistent favorite among locals. You will hear the distant hum of the Lahaina harbor activity while you dine on plates that prioritize simplicity over fuss. The chefs lean into traditional Hawaiian flavor profiles, balancing sweet pineapple salsas with the sharp, clean heat of local chili peppers.

A Local Hangout

The atmosphere is bright and unpretentious, making it a perfect stop after a morning of whale watching or browsing the nearby art galleries. Expect the pace to match island time—it’s a place meant for lingering over a cold local beer or a chilled glass of wine rather than a quick bite. While the dining room remains compact, the open-air layout keeps the space feeling airy despite the occasional island rain shower that forces everyone to scoot their stools a little closer to the center of the patio.

Why Visit?

If you appreciate a meal that feels like a conversation with the ocean, Happy Fish captures that West Maui essence without the corporate polish of larger resorts. It is ideal for those who value authenticity and want a dinner that feels grounded in the community’s daily rhythm.

Love the shrimp tacos at this spot, especially on happy hour. Great atmosphere and vibes, they have lots of fun events during the week and most of the bartenders are very friendly. Will be going back soon!! Shout out to Sonia, Luis, Justin, Ryan and Alejandro for always being attentive and delivering great customer service every time.

Hospitable and kind. We door dashed the food and the app wouldn’t let us add some stuff so we called. They were incredibly kind and more than happy to help us out. Politeness alone was amazing. Looking forward being able to eat there in person someday when we come back on vacation to support these guys more!

The wife and I have been to Maui twice this year. We’ve eaten at Happy Fish about six times! It’s been really good! Shaka shrimp, Wagyu Smash Sliders, Truffle Fries and breakfast on Saturday and Sunday morning are a must. We definitely plan on visiting as much as we can and we plan to visit and eat at Happy Fish when we are here. Drinks are great, Mai Tai, Espresso Martini, and any Zero Proof are great. Yes they have their busy times. Recommend visiting early afternoons or before the rush. If you like a full house they have Bingo on Wednesdays, Trivia on Thursdays and Karaoke on Fridays! Thanks Happy Fish 🤙🏽

Great bar… The staff at the resort we lodged in recommended this cool spot. We were exploring the area since we were from LA and we were soaking up the local atmosphere. Awesome crowd. Beautiful Lahaina area.

Sports bar with fish entrees on the menu. Indoor and covered outdoor seating. Track Music was good. Saw a dj but no one was spinning on Friday evening. Lilikoi mule was not exciting. Smash burger was tasty with a fresh bun but the beef patty was very tiny making it too much bun for the amount of meat. Felt like I got the slider size patty on a full size bun. Fries were good. Two friends each had the opakapaka and was presented very well, tasted great but mentioned slightly overcooked. Ahi was excellent. Easy parking. Likely because Restaurant was nearly empty at 7pm on a Friday.

This place was so much fun. Went on a Wednesday and it was packed, I was surprised for it being mid week. They were having Binglow and I had the best time. The host Sonia had the best personality. They had late night happy hour too which is always a plus. I got some happy hour drinks and the ono tacos. Let me tell you, Ono tacos are sooo ono. Definitely recommend them. Joe was the Bartender and he made this well crafted drink that had mezcal, just forgot the name. Came back for him lol Other bartender was Justin. Great service, already recommend to friends!

Hidden gem! I was hesitant to go based on the negative reviews here about service, but everyone was friendly, kind and helpful! The happy hour is great and affordable. It’s a counter service place. And you order alcoholic beverages directly from the bar. Really nice decor, modern, clean, spacious and the outdoor seating is cool and shaded. The fish tacos were tasty and burger was good. The fries were super tasty. The mai tai was great! And I love that they have a fountain soda machine. A chill spot, with easy parking.

Happy Fish has a fun, inviting vibe that immediately draws you in. The food is genuinely amazing—fresh, flavorful, and packed with personality. Just a tip: taste the sauces before you dive in, as some might not be what you expect. Where the experience unfortunately falls short is the service. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty—with only one other table seated—service was painfully slow. We had to go looking for our server just to get a refill, only to find them standing around in the back. When we brought up that the ranch was expired and suggested they let the kitchen know, the response was baffling: *"I don't know, I don't eat the sauce or anything here."* That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the visit. Once your food hits the table, don’t count on any follow-up—if you need anything, you're better off getting it yourself. On a brighter note, their happy hour is worth checking out—great deals and a more energetic vibe if you stick to the bar. Skip the table service and head straight to the bar for the best experience.
