TLDR: only consider this hotel if you're booking/upgrading to the Hokupa’a Tower, it will be an unforgettable experience. Do not bother booking the regular rooms. I have a somewhat positive but conflicting views of this hotel in several ways. The public areas of this hotel are impeccable 10/10 and probably the best along the Kaanapali beach. Adult pools and kids pool, the most I’ve seen in a hotel. Flamingos, parrots, koi fish in ponds, the best I’ve seen in Hawaii so far. Now let’s get to the rooms which is somewhat interesting. I’ve stayed in both the regular building and the Hokupa’a tower and they are worlds apart! Regular rooms are so small. I’ve stayed at Westin Hapuna on the big island and it was so spacious compared to this property. Very thin walls (could hear next door making a phone call), dated (3 star hotel at best), really not worth the price you’re paying 600+. The front desk lady was very nice and accommodating to help me find the best room but it’s really hard given the high occupancy. But the tower rooms are newly renovated, spacious, and clean. You also get access to this Lanai lounge with breakfast and dinner served with unparalleled views. Here’s what’s more interesting: they do not upgrade Marriott elites (even ambassadors) to the tower (I’m not sure how they can justify this under the Marriott system but looking at several posts online this seems to be a hard rule coming from management). I was able to pay a discounted price (< 200) for the upgrade and I felt it was worth every penny. I would rather pay for the upgrade and get a 10/10 experience than getting stuck in the regular room which really would have been disappointing for my vacation.

I have stayed at Marriott properties for years and have spent well over $100,000 between hotels, resorts, and work travel. As a Gold Elite member, I’ve also participated in three Marriott Vacation Club promotional stays. Unfortunately, after declining to purchase into the Vacation Club, the experience changed dramatically. We were informed that Marriott was essentially “done” offering us promotional opportunities because we chose not to invest. For this stay, we were placed in a villa with a disappointing view that overlooks maintenance operations, equipment, and trash areas rather than the beautiful scenery guests expect when visiting Hawaii. It’s difficult to understand why loyal customers who have spent thousands of dollars with Marriott would be treated this way simply because they decided not to purchase a Vacation Club membership. If Marriott wants guests to become owners, the experience should encourage that decision—not make guests feel penalized for declining. The attached view from our villa speaks for itself. While the property itself is beautiful, this experience has left a bad impression. As someone who travels frequently for work and has consistently chosen Marriott, I am now seriously considering taking my business elsewhere. I expected better treatment from a company that values loyalty and long-term customers.

A great place to get away. Get an ocean view room. It is worth the extra cost. Lots of beach access and water activities. Plenty of pools with a couple adults only. Two sit down restaurants with diverse menu and good food and service. Next stop to the North is the Whalers Shopping area with more restaurants, shopping and boat tours. It was quite windy during our stay but didn't keep you away from the outdoor activities.

One of the most unpleasant hotel experiences I've ever had. I'm not picky, but the standard here is pretty low. I had multiple experiences of disgruntled staff either close up shop without warning or outright ignore me. This was the ethos of the resort. The majority of people I noticed smiling were some staff, children, and the overtly inebriated. This definitely feels like a family friendly spot, but not a relaxing destination for couples. In a pool area that was already "reserve your chairs with a towel early" mentality, I watched the staff replace these limited chairs with several gazebo beds available for an upcharge. If you're trying to use resort credits, you'll find it hard to pull off (read the fine print!). The beds/pillows were not very comfy. The food was better on other parts of the island (off the resort). The only thing I truly enjoyed was the hot tub with a sandbed. Definitely not worth the price nor the "perks" they throw at you.

From the moment we checked in, the service was exceptional. From the front desk staff to the beach and pool attendants, everyone was welcoming, attentive, and eager to help. The hotel itself was beautiful, with clean and well-maintained facilities, friendly staff, and a relaxing atmosphere. Every aspect of our stay exceeded expectations, making for an overall amazing experience. I would highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning in the future.

We stayed 9 incredible nights at the The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka’anapali and had an amazing experience! The property is absolutely beautiful, with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets every day. We loved the pool service and enjoyed renting beach chairs and an umbrella for a relaxing day by the ocean. We also really enjoyed the live music by the beach in the evenings. One of our favorite things was the short walk to Whalers Village, which made it easy to explore nearby shops and restaurants. We highly recommend Island Vintage Coffee for breakfast or an açaí bowl—it quickly became one of our favorite spots. The staff truly made our stay special. Caroline checked us in and was warm, welcoming, and gracious. Jonathan helped with our luggage and shared helpful tips and recommendations that made our trip even better. Some pool chair locations are claimed early in the morning, but with the time difference, we were up early anyway, so it was never an issue for us. We would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone looking to stay in the Kaʻanapali area. We had a wonderful anniversary trip and would happily stay here again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐We would bring our kids next time!!

We really enjoyed our stay. The pool area is amazing and we spent a lot of time there. The location is excellent, with Whalers Village right next to the hotel and lots of food options. Overall, it was great value for the money we paid.
