About
A Maui Staple for Island Provisions
In the heart of Lahaina, just steps from the bustling Front Street area, Foodland serves as far more than your typical grocery stop. For locals and savvy travelers alike, this is the go-to destination for authentic, fresh poke that rivals any high-end sushi counter on the island. The glass deli cases are constantly replenished, offering a kaleidoscope of seasoned octopus, spicy ahi, and shoyu-drenched cubes of fresh-caught tuna.
The Poke Counter Experience
Stepping inside, the hum of the busy grocery store fades once you approach the seafood department. The air carries the faint, clean scent of the ocean mixed with the savory aroma of toasted sesame oil and sweet onion. It is a no-frills, grab-and-go environment where the focus is entirely on the quality of the fish. Whether you are stocking up for a beach day at nearby Puamana or just grabbing a quick lunch, the efficiency here is matched only by the consistency of the flavors.
What to Know Before You Go
While the poke is the primary draw, don't overlook the expansive selection of island-style snacks and local beverages. You will often find a line during the peak lunch hour, as this remains a core part of the daily routine for West Maui residents. Parking can be a bit of a dance in the lot, so patience is a virtue, but the reward of a fresh poke bowl under the Hawaiian sun makes the maneuver well worth it. It is the perfect embodiment of Maui’s casual, flavor-forward culinary culture—honest, fresh, and deeply connected to the island’s bounty.

Hungry for poke? Hit up Foodland in the Lahaina Gateway. Very delicious. Great variety and very fresh. Usually a line during lunch time. 😊❤️ …

Overall, Foodland Farms in Lahaina has a great selection of choices and everything was good with many options. However, the service really brought the experience down, especially when we are traveling from thousands of miles away from Hawaii. The employee serving poke was quite rude and he was pretty inpatient, the guy with glasses. Which made the interaction uncomfortable. Other than that this place has good products, but the customer service definitely needs improvement.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Stopped at Foodland in Maui because everyone told me they had the best poke on the island. While waiting in line, the lady in front of me ordered her poke and some mysterious green sauce. Seconds later, she dropped the sauce all over the floor. No worries, accidents happen. Her primary concern, however, was securing a replacement before gravity could strike again. I ordered the Spicy Ahi Tuna and California Ahi Tuna and headed to checkout. As I'm paying, I look up and see the same lady heading for the exit. Then it happened. The poke hit the floor. Rice. Tuna. Everywhere. Without missing a beat, she immediately began reciting her order from memory to get a replacement. No hesitation, not a single stage of grief. Pure professionalism. I can only assume that after I left, she dropped the replacement too. As for me, I learned that poke probably isn't my thing. But the live entertainment was outstanding. 5 stars.

Good location with convenient parking. Store interior is an older, dated design, but it's clean and well stocked with a good selection of groceries. The cashiers were courteous and efficient, and the prices were competitive.

Great poke bar and a good variety of groceries. However, the checkout experience felt misleading. We were first offered a bag for $1. Only after we specifically asked about a paper bag did the cashier show one that had been kept out of sight and say it was $0.05, with little effort to explain the options upfront. The cheaper option was not proactively disclosed, which felt deceptive and unnecessary given the price difference.

The poke was insane! Flavor was amazing and portions were huge. We took our bowls back to our room and enjoyed the view while absolutely crushing these bowls.
