About
A Roadside Ritual on the Way to Lahaina
If you are driving along the Honoapiilani Highway toward the West Maui coast, the humble setup of Fish Tacos El Blue is impossible to miss—and frankly, a mistake to skip. Located right in the heart of Olowalu, this spot captures the essence of true island-style eating: no frills, just incredibly fresh catches served with a view of the Pacific.
The Olowalu Catch
This is where local fishermen bring the best of the day’s haul. You will find the fish tacos here are prepared with a focus on simplicity, featuring perfectly seared fillets tucked into warm corn tortillas. The texture is a standout—crispy on the edges, tender inside, and topped with house-made salsas that provide just enough heat to cut through the salt air. It is the kind of lunch that demands you eat with your hands, ideally while perched on a nearby bench watching the waves break over the reef.
Why Locals Stop Here
The atmosphere is strictly open-air and breezy. It is the perfect pit stop for surfers coming off the morning swell or road-trippers navigating the winding coastal roads. Be aware that because this is a popular roadside gem, parking can be a bit of a tight squeeze when the surf is up, so keep an eye on the gravel pull-off as you approach. The sound of the wind rushing through the nearby kiawe trees and the faint smell of lime and griddled corn make it a quintessential Maui experience that feels light-years away from the crowded resort dining rooms in nearby Lahaina.
Whether you are craving a quick bite after exploring the Olowalu petroglyphs or just need a high-quality fuel-up before heading further north, this food truck operation delivers authentic, uncomplicated flavor that highlights why Maui is a world-class destination for seafood lovers.

Amazing fish tacos! Some of the best we have had on the islands. The 5 star rating this restaurant has is well deserved. They have a bunch of sauces to choose from as well. The carne asada and birria tacos were good as well. But the fish tacos are a must here!

Fish Tacos El Blue is one of those rare finds that reminds you why food trucks can completely outshine oceanfront restaurants. This family-operated gem at Olowalu Village, perfectly located between the airport and the Kaʻanapali resorts, serves some of the most flavorful, satisfying food we had on the island. The fish tacos are outstanding — fresh, perfectly cooked, and boldly seasoned without overpowering the quality of the seafood. Every bite tastes intentional and made with care. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the quality easily rivals (and honestly surpasses) many expensive beachfront spots nearby. What truly elevates El Blue is the heart behind it. You can feel the pride and warmth of a family business that genuinely cares about what they serve and the people they serve. No gimmicks, no inflated prices — just incredible food and real aloha. Worth every penny. A must-stop on Maui. We would come back in a heartbeat.

This place was a 10/10. The quality of the ingredients, the freshness, and flavorful dishes makes this the perfect lunch spot. There is no surprise why this place has 5 star ratings all around. Our party of two shared two Baja shrimp tacos and one Chicali burrito and the portions were generous enough to leave us satisfied. The homemade salsa bar was the cherry on top to add to the already delicious dishes. This place is located right off the side of the road, but it is worth making a stop or even going out of your way to try it. The lady at the counter was friendly as well.
