About
Baja-Inspired Eats in the Heart of Lahaina
When you walk down the historic corridors of Front Street, the scent of sizzling achiote and charred corn pulls you toward ElBlueFishTaco. This isn’t your typical sit-down tourist trap; it is a counter-service haven where the focus remains squarely on the quality of the catch. The kitchen prioritizes local, line-caught fish, turning humble tortillas into vessels for vibrant, citrus-forward flavors.
The Flavor Profile
The signature fish taco here arrives with a distinct crunch—a beer-battered crust that shatters perfectly against the tender, flaky protein inside. The chefs rely on a tangy house-made crema and a pickled cabbage slaw that provides a sharp, acidic counterpoint to the richness of the deep-fried fish. If you are looking for heat, their habanero-mango salsa adds a tropical sting that wakes up the palate without overpowering the delicate flavor of the ocean-fresh ingredients.
The Atmosphere
ElBlueFishTaco captures the casual, salt-crusted essence of West Maui dining. Expect high-top tables, open-air breezes, and a backdrop of classic surf rock. It is the kind of spot where you might find yourself waiting a few extra minutes for a seat during the lunch rush, as locals duck in alongside visitors seeking a quick, authentic bite. The space is modest and utilitarian, designed for people who care more about the contents of their plate than the plushness of the furniture. Keep in mind that seating is limited and often spills out toward the sidewalk, making it a lively, high-energy spot to refuel after an afternoon of snorkeling or wandering the banyan tree grounds. It’s unpretentious, fast, and stays true to the coastal soul of Lahaina.

Amazing fish tacos! Some of the best we have had on the islands. The 5 star rating this restaurant has is well deserved. They have a bunch of sauces to choose from as well. The carne asada and birria tacos were good as well. But the fish tacos are a must here!

Fish Tacos El Blue is one of those rare finds that reminds you why food trucks can completely outshine oceanfront restaurants. This family-operated gem at Olowalu Village, perfectly located between the airport and the Kaʻanapali resorts, serves some of the most flavorful, satisfying food we had on the island. The fish tacos are outstanding — fresh, perfectly cooked, and boldly seasoned without overpowering the quality of the seafood. Every bite tastes intentional and made with care. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the quality easily rivals (and honestly surpasses) many expensive beachfront spots nearby. What truly elevates El Blue is the heart behind it. You can feel the pride and warmth of a family business that genuinely cares about what they serve and the people they serve. No gimmicks, no inflated prices — just incredible food and real aloha. Worth every penny. A must-stop on Maui. We would come back in a heartbeat.

This place was a 10/10. The quality of the ingredients, the freshness, and flavorful dishes makes this the perfect lunch spot. There is no surprise why this place has 5 star ratings all around. Our party of two shared two Baja shrimp tacos and one Chicali burrito and the portions were generous enough to leave us satisfied. The homemade salsa bar was the cherry on top to add to the already delicious dishes. This place is located right off the side of the road, but it is worth making a stop or even going out of your way to try it. The lady at the counter was friendly as well.
