Captain Jack's Island Grill
About
A Lookout Above Front Street
Positioned directly above the bustling foot traffic of historic Front Street, Captain Jack's Island Grill offers a vantage point that feels miles away from the sidewalk rush. Once you climb the stairs, the open-air deck rewards you with a cool breeze and a view of the West Maui mountains, punctuated by the occasional sound of street performers drifting up from below.
Island Favorites and Pub Classics
This is where you go when the craving for something hearty hits after a day at the beach. The kitchen excels at straightforward, satisfying comfort food. The signature Maui-style fish tacos are the standout here, featuring fresh catch that reflects the local bounty, while the pulled pork sandwich hits that perfect balance of smoky and sweet. If you are aiming for something different, their coconut-crusted shrimp is a staple that bridges the gap between pub grub and tropical island flair.
The Atmosphere
Captain Jack's carries a relaxed, nautical personality that doesn't take itself too seriously. It is a casual hangout ideal for families, groups of friends, or anyone needing a cold local brew after walking the Lahaina shoreline. Keep in mind that the space gets quite lively as the sun dips below the horizon, and because it is a popular spot for travelers, the seating can feel a bit snug during peak hours. It is the kind of place where you don't mind the noise; it is just part of the island energy.

Very quick service. Seated by a lovely lady. Menus and happy hour options presented. Happy hour 20% off appetizers $8 mai tai, $6 well drinks and a reductions. Menu was dull if fresh meat and fish selections Vegetarian options as well. The fish of the day was Mahi, and it was so light and flaky and absolutely melt in your mouth good. Parking was easy and a short walk into the property. Very easy to find. The view was surrounded by pools, but oversaw the beachfront horizon and made for a magnificent sunset dinner.

This restaurant is at the back of the resort moderately close to the ocean. It's an open air table service establishment with a good view of the water. An eclectic menu with some choices only served during a specific time of day. The service was wonderful with wait staff that never missed a beat even when our meal went over two different shifts. The food was the perfect te6and it came out quickly. I would certainly go again and try other tasty options.

The food was okay. The service was good. Our qualm is with where we were seated, I guess. This restaurant sits right on the resort's pool & there were about six little boys having a swell ol time at the pool being loud & splashing & a couple times we got splashed with water. I don't know what could be done, maybe a screen or something. The server also noticed & asked the boys to jump & play on the other side of the pool. We're not anti-fun or water, but I wasn't expecting a splash show during lunch 😂 Don't sit near the pool if it's busy!

We stopped here for our last dinner on Maui for vacation and the place was packed on Friday night! Our server, Omar, was friendly and helpful with regards to the menu. Mom got the Ribeye and the rest of us, the Ono Fish and Chips. Very delicious! Will have to keep this restaurant in mind whenever we can make it back.

Josue was excellent server. He recommended food out of the ordinary. It’s a bit of a walk for handicap people. They don’t take reservations so come early. Rib eye was great and so was the calamari. Prices were good

Captain Jack’s location is definitely its strongest feature just a few steps from the ocean with a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the dining experience did not live up to the setting or the price point. I ordered the Jack Philly, and the menu clearly stated a choice of home fries or toast. When I asked about it, the server abruptly corrected me and said, “No, it’s choice of potato.” The interaction felt unnecessarily rude and uncomfortable, as if the frustration was being taken out on paying customers. Honestly, it felt tense enough that I thought the server might punch me while taking my order. The food itself was just okay. My omelet, which cost $27, came out burnt, and the “home fries” were simply potatoes. Add another $4 for iced tea, and the pricing felt very inflated for the quality and service received. To make matters worse, the actual pricing did not even reflect what was listed online. Overall, the oceanfront location is beautiful, but the poor service, inconsistent pricing, and underwhelming food quality made this a disappointing experience. Surprised, to say the least.

We were recommended this place that it was the best fish and chips in the island. It was definitely one of the best place for any fried food! I usually order wings without the sauce because you'll know if they actually have good food and not depend on the space and certainly one of the best wings I've ever tried. The service is superb though they don't take any reservations but the place is spacious and we only waited around 10 min for a table at night. The entrance is pretty confusing to find. It's in the middle of the hotel. 10/10 really great service and food.

Everything was great! Amazing calamari appetizer was definitely worth coming back for. My husband was very happy with his burger and I thought the fish sandwich was the best one I’ve ever had! You won’t regret it!
