Bistro Gourmandise
About
A Slice of Paris on the Maui Coast
Tucked away from the bustling Front Street crowds, Bistro Gourmandise offers a departure from the typical tiki-bar culture of Lahaina. Stepping inside feels like stumbling upon a quiet corner of the 7th Arrondissement, where the air smells faintly of browned butter and fresh thyme rather than salt spray. This is where you go when you want to trade a plastic cup for a proper stem of wine and a conversation that lasts longer than a sunset.
The Culinary Craft
Chef-driven and unapologetically traditional, the kitchen focuses on the fundamentals of French technique. You won't find fusion experiments here; instead, expect expertly executed classics like Coq au Vin and delicate, buttery escargot that arrives sizzling at your table. The onion soup is particularly notable—crowned with a heavy, golden-brown crust of gruyère that demands a bit of patience to breach. It is the kind of cooking that prioritizes depth of flavor over visual gimmicks.
The Experience
The dining room leans into an intimate, understated elegance. With a handful of tables arranged close together, the room fills with a low-hum of clinking cutlery and animated chatter as the evening progresses. Be prepared for a cozy, tight-knit environment; it’s a space where you’ll inevitably catch glimpses of your neighbor's dessert. While parking in this historic district can be a test of patience, the reward is a tranquil, transportive meal that feels miles away from the island's more tourist-centric hotspots. It is a refined destination for those who prefer their Maui evenings marked by white tablecloths and lingering glasses of Bordeaux.

Delicious crepes! Savory or sweet, you got it. The crepe itself had some bite to it and had a good subtle egg flavor. The owner was very nice. I went on the weekend and there was a hula performance inside the food court that this food truck was parked at. I would come back again for more yummy crepes!

First time trying this crepe spot and it was disappointing. The crepe looks good on top, but inside there were barely any toppings, just a little bit. The loaded fries also had very little sauce and toppings. The dough was good though, just wish there was more filling.

That day, around 1 PM, I wanted something to eat with my coffee. I remembered there was a food truck in the mall, so I went to check it out. I found a crepe stand and decided to order one. The taste went perfectly with the coffee; the chocolate in the crepe was fragrant. I wasn't disappointed at all.
